Joan Ganz Cooney's Very Mysterious Dreams
In response to: What recurring dream (or nightmare), if any, has come back to you time and time again?
I am often about to go onstage to perform in a play but have not memorized my lines and am begging the director to let me read from the script. Or I am about to take a test I haven’t studied for, and haven’t read the books assigned. (Very mysterious dreams.)

that’s anxiety—-exercise—-for your sake, lest it be too late, please avoid all ‘tranqs’ most drs. script—-quite deadly to the core ‘you’—-those dreams are a pain—-it’s hearsay, but fish-oil tablets help some—-do i know anxiety? an obsessive ‘nail-biter’, 3rd grade—-dysfunctional ‘ozzie &…’—-
many have learned, in biz, it’s ‘take a break, or break’. like a few days in The Bahamas? whatever?—-by the time anxiety starts ‘ruling’ your sleep? that’s a prob ya know—-it’s coming from somewhere, the calendar? as Devo said—‘it’s not too late, try to detect it—-and whip it, whip it good!’
a few days walking in the sand may pay-off—-even be a shelter—-w/ M.D. approval—-
I had that one once. I was back in high school and they were doing another performance of The King and I and standing in the wings, I realized, wait a minute, I haven’t done this for years! I knew the songs, but I wasn’t sure I could remember all my lines! So, I’m not sure. Is that anxiety or wishful thinking?
Dear Joan
I’m a bit of a Jungian when it comes to dreams. I used to have many variations on that type of dream. They both really carry the same message. We feel unprepared.
There is a “cure” for dreams of this type, in my opinion. Once we take the time to search out what we feel unprepared about, we can research & learn about that topic. When we have completed an understanding of that area of our lives, those dreams vanish forever.
I figure that the unconscious mind will continuously search for suitable metaphors to catch our attention to send us on a quest for resolution. Sometimes it only takes giving conscious attention to a message from the unconscious. Resolution to the question gives us peace & restores us to balance with the universe.
The mind is an amazing thing. It always seems to know what we need, and hands us a “to do” list through our dreams.
