Report: John Edwards Confesses to Elizabeth: 'It's My Baby'

The National Enquirer, which broke the story of John Edwards’s affair with Rielle Hunter, now reports that the former Senator finally confessed to his wife Elizabeth that he is the father of Hunter’s baby.
According to the National Enquirer, Edwards made the admission to his wife for fear that Hunter would go public, and he wanted to beat her to the punch. Hunter reportedly became upset over the prospect of Elizabeth Edwards’s new book, "Resilience: Reflections on the Burden and Gifts of Facing Life’s Adversities," which comes out in May.
Said an anonymous source:
Rielle has become extremely edgy, and John’s been afraid she might go public before Elizabeth’s book comes out so she can put her story out there first. These concerns led to John telling Rielle that he had sat down with Elizabeth and admitted to being the baby’s father. This is something that Rielle had been pushing John to do for a long, long time because he initially told Elizabeth he was NOT the father. The last thing John wants right now is for Rielle to go public before Elizabeth’s book comes out, makes new headlines and trigger a nasty battle between the two women.
Hmmm. We’re not sure who to believe. The National Enquirer was right about the affair, but wouldn’t John have simply fessed up during his original confession, rather than dragging out the scandal?

"First he betrayed his wife while she was desperately ill.." and ". . he betrays his own baby by denying he is the father."
How true!
". . the whole thing disgusts me."
Totally agree!
He’s a scoundrel!
Again—-this is none of my business…it takes two to tango, my parents always said—-the ‘other woman’ is just as equally responsible for this to have happened…from the outstart…IF, as I understand what I have just read, she has been trying to get John to admit to his wife—my question is ‘why?’. What was her intent, to begin with? John could have said no to the affair. She could have said no to the affair. and in this day and age, it is a simple matter of taking a pill, inserting an IUD, or wearing a condom….
Soooooo, as I think about this, I wonder if the intent per Reille, was to get pregnant on purpose! And if John was paying for the support of that child, WHY would it be important to Reille, that the child become a public property? for the gossip columns!?
Not thinking with his brain at the time would be my guess… I feel bad for all of the victims of Edwards’ stupidity.
I think we reach true equality when a women’s relevance is defined by her OWN attributes, character, deeds, choices, history, contributions, and successes. Elizabeth Edwards has contributed much politically and culturally and that is where the real discussion should begin.
What a shame. How could he do that to his wonderful wife. It just sickens me. Another thing if I see one more of these wifes standing there humbly along side one of these lowlifes while they say they are sorry after they get caught. Well…..I shall just scream!!!!!
I think the National Enquirer is desperate, and is using John Edwards stories to make money. The National Enquirer is disgusting.

AMI Restructures Debt, Avoids Bankruptcy Bondholders take control of publisher; Pecker remains CEO.(2/1/09)

National Enquirer and Star publisher American Media has, for all practical purposes, gone bust.
The AMI has been battling bankruptcy rumors for months, after taking on too much debt. Clearly, AMI couldn’t afford to pay back what they owe. So now they’ve come to a resolution: handing 95% of the company over to creditors! Which means that David Pecker and the other investors who bought the company nine years ago have been left a stake that’s worth next to nothing. This is, uh, "avoiding" bankruptcy:
The agreement, which reduces the company’s debt by $227.2 million, transfers ownership of 95 percent of AMI’s common stock to bondholders, the company said Sunday evening. CEO David Pecker… and Evercore Partners bought American Media in 1999 for $850 million.
