John McCain Hosts QVC with 'Sarah Palin' on 'Saturday Night Live' (Video)

John McCain and "Sarah Palin" on SNL

With three days left until Election Day, John McCain put his campaign to a halt to make an appearance on NBC’s "Saturday Night Live" — where he poked fun at his campaign financial shortcomings and sold McCain-themed merchandise on a fake QVC show.

McCain, alongside "Sarah Palin" (Tina Fey), kicked off saying how this past Wednesday Barack Obama purchased airtime on three major networks, but his campaign, however, can only afford QVC. McCain advertised a set of knives that cut through pork in Washington. "Palin" advertised a set of Joe action figures commemorating Joe the Plumber, Joe Six Pack and Democratic rival Joe Biden. If you pull Biden’s cord, he talks for 45 minutes … Cindy McCain briefly appeared but didn’t speak as she showcased "McCain Fine-Gold" jewelry, a play on the campaign finance law McCain helped authored. Called the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) of 2002, the law is also known as "McCain- Feingold."

"Palin" also pulled out T-shirts saying "Palin 2012."

"If I’m not going to the White House," she said, "I’m either running in four years or I’m going to be a white Oprah."

Watch John McCain and "Sarah Palin" address the nation on QVC:

McCain also appeared on Weekend Update to talk about his new, radical campaign strategies. Watch the video below to learn how the "Reverse Maverick" and "The Sad Grandpa" will help McCain win the election.

While McCain did make fun of himself, this was obviously a campaign move. The comedy show’s impact on this election is more than evident. Last month, when the real Sarah Palin appeared on the show, it was the highest rated "SNL" episode in 14 years.

Okay. I’ve never had a Starbucks coffee. Getting one free sounds good to me. Right after I vote.

Rocky, I liked the Starbucks part too! Can not say that I like their coffee though! Yukky bitter stuff. But I sure like the use of their publicity to be two fold! Nice message and kudos for the participation.

Just had this thought…Coffee. Starbucks and Seven Eleven! Only in America! Merchandising! But I give them credit for riding the wave to push the vote! Now if we make it Popular, maybe we can make the changes in our Political System and make the changes that need to be done! Such as doing away with the Electoral College. And of All Countries, Where Voting should be in Ease and Total Freedom. The forefathers had Vision, they knew we would reach points of growth where we would need to make changes. That is why The How To Amend was written . Let us take the momentum , the energy be it positive or negative, energy is empowering, let’s take that power to bring the changes for future growth and maturity for America.A Beautiful LOving America would benefit The Whole World…

Never could fathom how a human being could drink coffee. But it does smell good! Just watched on C-SPAN the replay of the independent presidential debate that was held in Cleveland on Thursday. You get the feeling you’re getting more of the straight scoop, rather than the BS put forward by both the Democrats & Republicans. There was Libertarian candidate Bob Barr, the Constitutional party’s Chuck Baldwin, and, of course, Ralph Nader. I think it was Baldwin who criticized Bill Clinton and Bob Dole for pushing NAFTA through too quickly in the mid-1990’s. Baldwin suggested that a 10% tariff be imposed on foreign imports, in order to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States. A fascinating concept; I don’t know if that would work, but we’ve got to do something to level the playing field. Ralph Nader said that we’ve got to bring manufacturing and food production closer to home, because if food is contaminated in China, we have no control of it in the U.S. I feel that the automotive and steel industries need to be kept alive at all costs.

James, Would it not be a good thing that all the ideas for helping the country be brought forth so that the very best can be woven together for the People? With the dismember of the two party electoral college stuff, we would ourselves up to more ideas and encourage even more ideas, that Dominoes Theory! My soapbox is No more Electoral College, reform of Political Adds and if we can put a man on the moon(Like how long ago was that!) We the country that is suppose to be all about, Our Right To Vote…We should be able to make it one of the easiest and most sacred events. We pat ourselves on the back telling other countries about Voting, So let us set an example of how Civilized Voting can be and How easy it really is to have fair and honest elections that are respected and are of great ease for All People..

Right, Jen. The system limits democracy when it limits the number of viable candidates to two, and even more so when those representing other parties are not given the chance to speak in more debates. No wonder there are so many independent voters. But if John Q. Public supports, say, Obama’s stance on abortion, but not his stance on taxes, who can he vote for? There is no middle ground with the dominant two-party system. And, in order to spike their ratings, the TV/cable networks try to shut out and shut up wise people like Ralph Nader. The system is corrupt, make no mistake. And I’m sure Obama and McCain both would admit privately that they had to tell a lot of “distortions” in order to win their respective primaries and during the homestretch. It’s not that either man inherently is a liar, just that the system requires them to sling mud, roll in the mud, and then get up and apply some lipstick.

James, Well said. I like how you worked in Lipstick! I just know in my heart we can do far better and it just would not be that hard to do. I also know that their are more than two people that have abilities and valid ideas. So I guess I just have to stay on the Soapbox until we have the opportunity to Change the system.
