John McCain Looking at 2010 Senate Run

John McCain’s not quite ready to ride off into the sunset!
The Arizona aenator, who lost his White House bid this month, reportedly told senior advisers last week that he plans on running for reelection in 2010, which means the 72-year-old envisions playing an integral role under President-elect Barack Obama’s administration. Some people remain skeptical about McCain’s true intentions, with many speculating he’s simply floating the idea to ensure a slot, but may not entirely be serious about keeping his position. Those people, naturally, are Democrats:
Democrats remain skeptical that McCain’s intention to run means that he will ultimately be a candidate for reelection. They see the resumption of his leadership PAC as simply McCain keeping his options open so that if he does ultimately decide to run, he will be strongly positioned to do so.
McCain’s not the only bold-faced Arizona politician who may be angling for a 2010 Senatorial run. Gov. Janet Napolitano, D-AZ, has reportedly been mulling her options — and mock polls put her ahead of McCain. Napolitano’s political future, however, rests on whether Obama pulls her into his administration. There were rumors the governor had been considered for the attorney general slot, but that appears to have been taken by Eric Holder. Another position has been floated, however: head of Homeland Security.
