Comment Watch, 'Change the World' Growth and wOw on Charlie Rose

Joni Evans

Dear Friends of wOw:

This week promises many new features. Your comments and posts have been so amazing and smart. We are going to feature the best of them on Fridays, as we introduce the wOw Comment of the Week.

CHANGE THE WORLD: We have been listening to your needs — big and small, collecting your suggestions and recommendations, and now want to take the next step in defining what CHANGE THE WORLD is (title of section still to be discovered — all suggestions are welcome). The key to its effectiveness is your continued exchange of experiences and anecdotes. We will be asking you to help us review and prioritize a new architecture later this week.

Some wOw women were on the Charlie Rose show last week and we thought you might enjoy seeing the clip. Click here to watch!

XOXOX,
Joni

Thank you so much for creating this site. It’s wonderful to hear your thoughts and opinions. Then reading comments from other women on the subject. Not sure that I agree with Mugsy about saying ‘But you are oriented toward paying attention to them.’ (men) You created this site for women, not like any other site that I’m aware. Most sites geared toward women, seem to only be interested in our opinions about the latest fashion, how to do things around the house, etc. Thanks for allowing us to be intelligent women with our own thoughts. What about taking Lance Armstrong idea – create a wowowow bracelet with the funds going towards a female charity? Enjoy the conversation pieces, would love to see on occasion a web video of your conversations on this site. How about allowing us to submit a Question of the Day? Have a corner to discuss women’s health issues. Please add go to home page at the bottom. Add the comment pages (1,2,3, last) at the top as you do at the bottom. Add an archival to read anything written by Liz or Mary, etc. This way we easily find and read anything written by Lesley Stahl. The archival by day is wonderful, please keep.

This has been an exciting discussion. How about a corner just to make a comment of the day? Could be about anything. My comment today would be what happened to the site by Lesley Stahl and that fellow with the cancer curing machine? Unfortunately I missed the program on Sunday due to the fact that I accidently fell into a capnap that began just before the program started and ended when Andy Rooney was having a discussion about fruit and vegetables. Oops.

Mary Lou, I was not able to download the video from the 60 Minutes website but there is a text available. I was hoping to hear comments about the broadcast here but I wonder WHY it was pulled down? Perhaps that text at 60 Minutes was not the entire interview? Something fishy here?

Mugsy - I’m pretty sure I am older than you, but I want to be you when I grow up. Susan C - I also was distressed to see the “top 10 posts” thing - hope this doesn’t turn into a competition. Re: Men - I agree with an earlier Mugsy post. I think Dr. M is a plant. Whom ever he/she is it is clear that s/he is terrified of empowered, intelligent, articulate women. I am no longer going to wast my time reading his posts - life’s to short.

Well, first of all, you have to adopt Peter Pan as one of your patron saints….

Roberta: The doctor posting with photo? He could be a divorced Psychiatrist, Republican presidential candidate and passionate flower gardener. So his being a plant, is entirely possible.

Iris….he’s also is a strong advocate for bombing Iran…right away…and a major misogynist….so yes, he is plant material. Or….why am I thinking “The Jerk” with Steve Martin? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=howO-wo7XOM

E-gad, this old grammar teacher just wants to pointout that “whover” is correct—-let’s not correct each others’ grammar or typing—everyone gets a pass and then maybe everyone, particularly the “women of less means and fortune” will feel more welcome.

I know! I don’t know what’s up with me today.

I need to add that I did see the Charlie Rose show, which was great - but was distressed to here that part of the reason for starting the sight was to “make money”. I am so not internet savvy that that had never occurred to me. DUH! I guess I assumed the “founding women” already had gobs of money. Duh again.

I hate to repeat this but I have heard (hopefully not true) that part of the reason women earn 70 cents to a man’s dollar is because women don’t ask or seek money. For us the site is free- these women will be taking money from white male corporations - rob ‘em blind ladies!

And why I won’t shut up about hiring women behind the scenes on this website, photographers, web techs, designers, editors, ad sales people, etc. Follow the money.
