Comment Watch, 'Change the World' Growth and wOw on Charlie Rose

Joni Evans

Dear Friends of wOw:

This week promises many new features. Your comments and posts have been so amazing and smart. We are going to feature the best of them on Fridays, as we introduce the wOw Comment of the Week.

CHANGE THE WORLD: We have been listening to your needs — big and small, collecting your suggestions and recommendations, and now want to take the next step in defining what CHANGE THE WORLD is (title of section still to be discovered — all suggestions are welcome). The key to its effectiveness is your continued exchange of experiences and anecdotes. We will be asking you to help us review and prioritize a new architecture later this week.

Some wOw women were on the Charlie Rose show last week and we thought you might enjoy seeing the clip. Click here to watch!

XOXOX,
Joni

Mugsy, women at one time were accused of being unladylike if they handled or discussed money. It is improtant for women to know our history and respect it to appreciate what we need to overcome for our futures. Why don’t we have a Women’s History Month like Black History Month- where clips of great women’s contributions are shown all month long on TV? This site could have a great woman of the week featured and a chyron (spelling wrong) of great womens names running across the bottom. I was so discouraged at the lack of great women recalled and named by us well informed ladies as possible Mt. Rushmore candidates. Women have been left out of history books - lets help us know and remember the MANY MANY great women who have gone before us.

Dr. Klein may also be a proctologist which would explain where he usually has his head. My bad, but that’s a humor colunist for you. Always looking for next weeks material. Thank you sir, I can skate the next couple of weeks. Thanks to you ladies as well for being there to talk. It’s either your group or the shrink.

I agree with Mugsy on much, without the sexist rage. She does make points as to who the founders are. But then again if not for who they are would we have gotten this site? I think the task of the founders is to internalize that NYC, Washington, and the West Coast do not represent most of the country or its’ intelligence. Or that all credible intelligence is in a large city. It is not true and I suspect they agree intellectually. But have they internalized this? I don’t think they think all women over 45 are married. I suspect they think most women over 45 have been married. And personally I find it of no use to discuss whether I am hetrosexual, homosexual, or vegetarian. I am here for intellectual stimulation and hope others get me thinkin’ more and I also can be of use to other’s thinkin’. I am an ‘I think’ type of gal rather than an ‘I feel’ type of gal. I’ll stand up without blusterin’ and personally I invite intelligent and curious and ponderin’ men to join the conversation, respectfully. The type of men who would come in here would like intelligent women as to more than just wanting to have an intelligent woman listen to them. Their mere appearance in here pretty much says we’re a good thing. A natural thing, don’t you think? I don’t personally choose to be intimidated by the presence or brains of men and I’ve never found intelligent men to choose to be intimidated by my presence or my brain. I like the cooperation of both the masculine and feminine forms of intelligence. Mugsy possibly if you let go of alotta stuff that has nothin’ to do with this site you would have talents that could be considered. But golly girl you got misdirected anger! I like the ideas that S. Conti presented as to part of our being activist’s where hands, head, and heart balance together to get important things done. And Mugsy I’m not a ‘Boomer’ I am the age just ahead that held the door open for them to come through. I’m a Kennedy Kid, perserved. And it has been my experience that all ages are clever and intelligent —and most became so without wastin’ alotta time on a ‘wounded child’. They just became. Hopefully there will be a blossoming within this site that will elevate us from trivial to fine detail, from Party girls to Independant thinkers, and from gossip spreaders to Fact Sharers. The site is not perfect but it’s sure on its’ way as to potential as a very credible piece of industry. Thank you innovators!

Oh, sweetie, first of all, I like most of your posts very much. Second, it’s a compliment that you’ve taken the time to answer me. And third thing, you know, I’m not angry. I’m really very passionate, as has been noted before, but I’m not angry. I just really am an ardent feminist, and you could put that on my tombstone, if I weren’t going to be cremated and mudded into the back wall of the adobe church in Georgia O’Keeffee’s famous painting. I am talking from principles, and I am strong on them. What I hope for and expect is for others to do the same.

Oh, Darlin’ (which is what Molly Ivins liked to call folks), first of all, I enjoy most of your posts very much. Second, it’s a compliment that you’ve taken the time to answer me. And third thing, you know, I’m not angry. I’m really very passionate, as has been noted before, but I’m not angry. I just really am an ardent feminist, and you could put that on my tombstone, if I weren’t going to be cremated and mudded into the back wall of the adobe church in Georgia O’Keeffe’s famous painting. I am talking from principles, and I am strong on them. What I hope for and expect is for others to do the same. I live in Oakland, and years of experience have taught me things about building an inclusive culture. One is, I am bored silly stupid senseless WITHOUT pluralism and inclusion. Second, many of my friends are men, and if you straight girls are looking for a good man, get your lesbian friends to find you one, cause we can really shuck the wheat from the chaff on that one, cause we just don’t bother with the losers. Third, did I mention I’m not angry? Fourth, I can stamp my foot and blow my stack here because I’m welcome to. I admire and respect the “girls” for opening themselves up to hearing what someone like me — who they would never in a million years otherwise have the opportunity to listen to — honestly believes about anything. So, mazel tov. But if they’re going to make all scads of money off my butt and of yours as well, they get to “pay for the privilege” by hearing what we’ve got to say. And from what they’re saying, they certainly don’t mind.

WHOOOOHOOOOO and YippeeKiYay!!! 1) I live in New Mexico, home, not only to O’Keefe, but Judy Chicago, whose “Dinner Party” is now permanently housed in the Brooklyn Musuem. (Want me to ask her to join the discussion?) 2) Born and raised in Oakland, where “there” is most definitely something “there” in the water. 3) And in similarity to our Masthead Mavens (a true term of affection for services rendered), I am redefining, reconfiguring and recharting by tacking a different course into the prevailing wind.

Ole Crone and all of you women who entered this world before me- I want to PERSONALLY THANK YOU with all my Heart for every path and hurdle and obstacle and wall that you knocked down to make my way a little easier. Now we are not done yet, ladies, there are girls following behind us that don’t even know how bad it was and so are oblivious to what is lurking in the bushes to derail them. We need to finish clearing the path once and for all.
