Judiciary Committee Gives Holder Green Light

Eric Holder’s waiting game may be coming to an end.

After a week of waiting, the Senate Judiciary Committee today approved the 58-year-old as our nation’s next Attorney General. The vote will now go to the rest of the Senate.

Republicans held up the confirmation last week over Holder’s assertion that waterboarding constitutes torture. Some senators, including John Cornyn, worried that the Attorney General would use his powers to prosecute intelligence officials who had previously used questionable interrogation methods. Cornyn and his allies were also concerned about former Bill Clinton staffer Holder’s pardon of crooked financier Marc Rich, a move Holder described as a mistake.

Holder will still have a tough time with the torture issue — he’ll have to strike a balance between worried Republicans and Democrats who aren’t as wary of prosecutions. Senator Patrick Leahy, for example, said he would not vote for an Attorney General who wouldn’t examine each case on an individual basis.

The entire Senate could vote as early as tomorrow. If approved, Holder will be the nation’s first African American Attorney General.

This is in tune with Obambi, pick scumbags for high office positions. Waterboarding is a walk in the park rather than what these animals deserve. The governor of CO welcomes the terrorists to his supermax prison. I’m sure the people of CO are thrilled with the idea. Maybe a terrorist beheader will be living down the street from one of you soon. I shouldn’t call him that, because America taught him how to behead someone, right? Remember, Americans are the cause of all the worlds problems. Why not have a guy that released terrorists from prison in charge of our legal system. Wake up.

I hope he’s approved. And I hope he’ll work like a jackhammer to prosecute any and all injustice perpetrated against the American people who’ve lost so much (dignity, security, prosperity) in the past few years.

Great News! I too hope he is confirmed. What a year of firsts eh? First Black President of the U.S. and now the first Black Attorney General. Little Black boys all across the country must surely feel pride and a new sense of self confidence. Yeah America!

So, Eric Holder has the green light in his bid to become Attorney General of the United States. No one was more unsuited for the job. He is a chameleon ….. no one actually sees him for what he is.

no one actually sees him for what he is. By Bonnie Oliver on 01/28/2009 6:44 pm Bonnie go ahead let the world know- dish the dirt. Are you the only one who knows. One of your right wing Republicans should know.

Starry Nite - There was a thread about Mr. Holder last week and it would not be a bad idea for you to read through it. Then you will realize that many of us are concerned about his appointment and not just Republicans. Perhaps in future you could do a little homework…..saves a whole lot of time from responding to erroneous charges.

Alberto Gonzales was unarguably more unsuited. Not only did he utterly fail to hold the Bush Administration within the limits of the law, he actively assisted in protecting him from Constitutional checks and balances. You cannot get more unsuited than “collaborator”.

Bonnie— It sure is a shame that all of these Republicans cant find enough dirt to smear another Democrat…….. you should write a letter to the GOP telling them how much they have let you down.

It is about time that the Republicans stopped trying to cover their bottoms, and allow this final cabinet position to be filled. Holding up Holder will not guarantee that the Republicans wont be held accountable. I have high expectations. The investigation must be done. It also looks like it will start on Monday……. Carl Rove has been subpoenaed again…. and he wants to claim executive privilege again….. but he was told that the rules have changed with the change of administrations. Now thats change I can believe in!!
