Just a thought but I think the Kindle would lead to more royalties. My son grew up on radio reader on PBS. It encouraged him to read authors he would never have considered on his own. So did listening to the books on tape, the kind now found on disks. Any route to reading leads people to pick up more books for pleasure. When I taught adult literacy for a few years I routinely read aloud to my students so they saw reading as more than a task they had to learn. Once people stop fearing the written word they can begin to enjoy and learn on their own from print.
