No, I am not surprised, because even the many, many people — like Robert Rubin to name just one — who should have seen it coming, either didn’t or chose not to. Mr. Stein seems to be a fairly mediocre apologist for a host of short-sighted public officials. How does he explain the more far-sighted minds in the public arena like Mr. Buffet who foresaw fundamental problems in the country’s financial markets?
