Kathy Griffin Wishes Hecklers a Profane New Year (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

What were the suits at CNN thinking when they cast their golden boy Anderson Cooper with brassy-haired vulgarian Kathy Griffin?

In case you missed it, comedienne Kathy Griffin lashed out at hecklers with lewd and vulgar remarks Wednesday night while hosting a live New Year’s Eve show with the mild-mannered reporter Anderson Cooper.

"Screw you," she told the New Orleans revelers. "Why don’t you get a job, buddy? You know what? I don’t go to your job and knock the d- - - out of your mouth."

Cooper’s head nearly spun 360° as he called for commercial break. Right before the audio cuts out, Griffin says, "That’s not …" Do you think the rest said, "referring to you, Cooper"?

Griffin, who stars in the Bravo reality TV series "My Life on the D-List," is known for her firecracker ways. No one can ever predict the outlandish remarks that’ll come from the petite redhead’s mouth — and no one is too sacred to be poked fun at. Accepting an award for her Bravo show at the 2007 Emmy Awards, Griffin told Jesus to "suck it." While Christian groups largely denounced that speech, the New Year’s clip hasn’t sparked much controversy. If you look at Griffin’s official MySpace profile, most — if not all — of the comments praised her shtick. We found her to be pretty funny New Year’s Eve … if incredibly offensive, rude and tasteless, such as when she asked Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN medical correspondent, for a pap smear. And we’re still wondering what in the world she was thinking with her word choice, or, dare we say, dick-tion?

I love her as well, I think she is absolutely hilarious, honest, offbeat, vulgar, crude and lewd!!!

She’s funny when she sticks to what she knows. Her insecurity takes her to the “sensational” and that’s a shame, because she could be bigger than her dream if she would just trust her instinct for comedy.

She is not funny to me at all! Obnoxious is more like it!

Gratuitous profanity is not necessary for the true comedian. We seem to have mixed up lewd with talent somewhere along the way. Gratuitous profanity is a gimic to cover up the lack of talent~~or perhaps the person’s perception of her ability to be funny without this type of schtick. My question is what does that say about the ones who think it’s funny? Also, why should we be surprised when our angelic little children try this at home?

I think she can be hilarious, so I’m curious- what do you think that says about me? As far as little children listening, I wouldn’t allow them to watch her, She’s strictly for adults, obviously. I guess i am just not uptight about profanity, around adult people. I do, however understand it offending people, but it just isn’t a big issue with me. I think she does have talent and a quick wit even when she’s not being her crude self.

Diana T Children shouldn’t be watching someone like her in the first place. Her comedic format is overly vulgar for my taste,. However, since people know her style why would they select her for such a gig, if that is not what they expected? I personally, do not watch such forms of t.v., I knew what to expect, I didn’t watch it. I do not like Family Guy either. I don’t find humor in ugly behavior. Also, I would remind all of us that television in general, has become nothing more than a violence, vulgar, blood and guts, factory. When we all decide to stop paying homage to all that makes our children behave badly, we will then begin to see more positive results. Please stop supporting anything vile, violent or vulgar! Thanks It is past time for our society to begin taking charge of our content - context - and consent. Jane Velez Mitchell brought up an important issue this week on Headline News, as well. The numbers of rising “violence against women” acts such as spousal abuse, rape, murder and violent acts overall against women. As long as we allow this kind of crap to be shown on our national television stations, we will experience the affects of it on our whole society. We really can do something about it, if enough people get fed up with it…

You missed my point, Ro. What I was trying to say is that this type of humor carries from parent to child. Just like all cultural issues, our children learn for the example of their parents, and I just think that if the parents see humor in this, then they aren’t showing their kids just what good taste is in any other genre. But, I agree with what you are saying in this post.

Diana T Well, shucks, ma’am. If you had written that in the first place there would be no further discussion… lol

I am so glad I never wasted my money on cable. Friends tell me I am not missing anything. I think Anderson Cooper is brilliant on his show Now, on PBS. He is out of the closet and I sincerely doubt he was offended by Griffin’s remark. I think he was worried how others would take it.

Anderson Cooper has never said he was Gay Kermie. Trust me on this one….if you have proof of him saying he is Gay please provide us with a link, because that would be HUGE news.

Look him up in wikipedia. It isn’t huge news—he just doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it—he is a private person.

No where in his Wikipedia bio does it indicate he is Gay (Homosexual). They speak of nothing more than is already widely known about him which is that he supposedly keeps his private life private. And I disagree with you, when and if he were to announce he was Gay it would indeed be HUGE, just as it was with Rosie O’Donnell, Ellen Degeneres, Jodi Foster and others. One’s sexual preference shouldn’t matter. However when one chooses to deny or hide their true identity, it is perfectly understandable that when they finally are real and honest, it will make news.

At the bottom of his wiki entry, in the footnotes: http://out.com/detail.asp?id=22392. You mentioned Jody Foster. He shares a cover with her. Clearly, they are mock-up pictures, but he hasn’t sued; it is old news. There are other footnotes relating to the same thing. I didn’t even search. I just glanced at the first entry I saw.
