Keith Olbermann in the Kitchen With Martha (Video)

We saw the softer side of MSNBC Keith Olbermann on Monday when he cooked up a storm with Martha Stewart when the two made a triple-chocolate pumpkin pie (Get that yummy recipe here.)

“Oh you make pies? I thought they grew this way,” joked Olbermann, who has a girlfriend and was hoping to perhaps gain some cooking tips from the domestic diva. He admitted he’s no culinary wizard.

While he was cooking, Olbermann talked about actor Ben Affleck’s recent "Saturday Night Live" impression of him (which was one of the best episodes in recent weeks, by the way), saying he was "flattered" by it.

"He’s the first person I know who’s ever done an impression of me," Keith said, "because apparently I don’t have anything you can do an impression of … Walter Matthau once told me he hated me personally and loved my work because he could not do an impression of me."

Martha admitted being “addicted” to Olbermann’s show, as well as that of Rachel Maddow. “I learn so much from your show … it’s a really good show, Keith.”

But Martha also wasn’t too happy about Sarah Palin giving an interview while a Thanksgiving turkey was being slaughtered behind her. “That was a pretty gruesome thing and that she could be making jokes while pardoning one poor turkey and slaughtering all the others. We know they get slaughtered for Thanksgiving. But that was a particularly gruesome scene.”

Martha also asked Olbermann why he thought California’s Proposition 8 banning gay marriage passed at the ballot box on Election Day. He said it was out of fear.

“If anybody wants to join the 50-50 crapshoot that is marriage, come on down,” he responded.

Here’s Part I of Olbermann’s cooking experience with Martha Stewart:

Once he relaxes imagine he’s a fun guy. Martha is couragous to express her opinions on her show.

Keith is a bit tightly wound….if he’s not talking about sports or politics, he always looks uncomfortable. But I still love him, I think he is a cutie.

I never really thought about it before, but based upon Martha Stewart’s choice of shows, Olbermann and Maddow, she is much more liberal than I would have expected. Not only am I pleased to hear it, but I commend her for expressing her views, something I don’t know that she has done before.

She was a major contributor to Democratic political races in 2000. Some people even think that she was prosecuted for her alleged fib [I don’t recall…] because she was a major Democratic contributor—remember this was the same Bush Justice Department that was later proven to have hired people with a political animus. She gave over $100,000 in 2001 to various Democratic organizations. And she supported Hillary for Senate and later for President. She is definitely a good lib. I do like it that she is expressing her views—and making a gorgeous pie! Both are important.

I didn’t know any of that, though, I know very little about her except that she is Polish and perhaps has a working class ethnic background. That could mean a strong pro-Union/Democratic family background.
