Laura Bush and Scribner Reach Memoir Deal

Laura Bush will have her hands full post-White House.
Scribner Publishing announced today that they’ve sealed the deal to publish the First Lady’s memoir, which will be released sometime next year. The financial details aren’t being released, but some insiders say Mrs. Bush could be pulling in as much as $8 million.
Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Scuhster, said that their editor-in-chief, Nan Graham, will edit the highly anticipated tome. Though she was a librarian at one point in her life, Bush isn’t a writer, so she will be hiring a "collaborator" to help her iron out the details.
Mrs. Bush hasn’t announced a title yet, but did release a statement expressing her excitement: "I am very pleased to be associated with Scribner, the distinguished publishing house of many of my favorite books. I look forward to working with Scribner and the Simon & Schuster team as I tell the stories of the extraordinary events and people I’ve met in my life, particularly during my years in the White House.” Scribner publisher Susan Moldow also released a statement celebrating the deal:
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to publish Mrs. Bush’s memoir. As a rare witness to the private moments of one of our country’s most consequential presidencies, and as a First Lady who has maintained a notable level of discretion, her memoir will provide a candid and personal perspective, and an enduring record, of the years that have already determined the course of the 21st century.
And, we’re sure, will sell well — former First Ladies have tremendous success on the shelves, and people are particularly interested in Mrs. Bush, who’s remained mum on much of her personal life.
