Laura Bush Angered Over Obama Attacks (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Like all married couples, Laura and George Bush don’t always see eye to eye. And that’s definitely the case when it comes to President-elect Barack Obama’s campaign critiques of George’s leadership. The first couple appeared on "Larry King Live" last night and discussed a range of issues, including Obama. While Mr. Bush admitted he "likes" Obama, Mrs. Bush told King she wasn’t always happy with how he handled himself on the campaign trail. Though it was President Bush who was asked if he took criticism to heart, it was Laura Bush who said she was angry about some of Obama’s rhetoric. Here’s the exchange:

KING: Oh, I know him. He was — but he was so critical of you. Do you take that personally or you don’t?

L. BUSH: I did.

KING: You did?

(LAUGHTER)

KING: Were you — were you angry at it?

L. BUSH: Yes, sort of. George didn’t even really know about it because he didn’t watch it that much, I don’t think.

Mr. Bush said such attacks are part and parcel of the political realm.

The trio also discussed more serious matters, like Iraq. Asked about whether she thinks we should have invaded the country, Mrs. Bush offered this:

I mean, do we really think we wish we had just kept doing UN Resolutions against Saddam Hussein and that he was still there? I mean, I just don’t think people really think that. And I think the people of Iraq are out from underneath a regime — a tyrannical regime, and have the chance to build a country and build a democracy. And I hope that the people of the United States will stand with them while they do that.

Well, at this point we don’t really have much of a choice, do we?

Here’s video of the Obama exchange.

DeBurca, Thanks for the link………….. I’m with Jon Stewart………….. Bush is so STUPID HE doesn’t know he’s STUPID………….. The words that come out of his mouth are unbelievable. Laura is as delusional as her mother in law………….they both think their little Georgie is perfect. Years from now History will ask…………..How could American’s have been so dumb as to electing this unintelligent man as their President (twice). Didn’t get my vote……………

Couldn’t agree with you more. And if you look at some of the posts on this thread, you may get an answer to your question “How could Americans have been so dumb… “

Let me finish that statement: “as to elect Obama”

“It seems the far right just can handle the truth that they have been rejected by America. They claim that Obama winning by 190 electoral votes in a 54%-46% “isn’t a mandate” even while these very same people claimed Bush had a mandate in a 35 electoral vote 51%-49% election. Sadly, that is just the “mainstream right” like Fox News while the right wing blogosphere is just frothing at the mouth with such hate and denial that it can only be characterized as a mental illness.”

Oh she is just being a ‘wife’…I was like that too, with my husband..until I realized he was a grown-up and needed to fight his own battles…and that his life was not my life….and that what he did was not something people would hold against me—-it’s called being ‘co-dependent’…and it looks like this one is toxic…When I read the article, it’s the first thing I thought of—-then I remembered W was an alcoholic—-so it all makes sense to me! Alcoholics and co-dependants always find each other…

To all of the above: You really don’t know what you are talking about. Since I am going to assume that none of you had access to highly sensitive intelligence information you can’t really make a statement based on facts and suspicious activity in and around Iraq. Of course he was involved in Katrina rescue efforts and beyond. We rescued over 30,000 from rooftops and dangerous situations in the first 24 hours. The United States has never seen a disaster quite like Katrina. It would take extraordinary measures to address the devastation. Louisiana had been warned numberous times by engineers that their systems were weak. The governor of Louisiana ignored the warnings. When a state like Louisiana doesn’t do what is best for their citizens to protect them from constant hurrican vulnerability, the end result is exactly what you read about. Laura Bush is an intelligent and savvy first lady. She is warm and caring and supports her husband. I would rate her as one of the best first ladies we’ve had in the White House. One day you will, too.

deber B, I live in the NOLA area ….”We rescued over 30,000 from rooftops and dangerous situations in the first 24 hours.” A complete untruth!!!

Jennifer, you are in the NOLA area, so you are probably a good one to ask. Do you agree with this post on pg. 6 of this thread? “Katrina might have been a blessing in disguise….75% of the people now have better lives and homes than what they had before. By Diamond In The Rough on 01/14/2009 3:09 pm”

Hello their Friend, There is nothing that that person posts in regards to Katrina that is of any truth. Not even close to the truth. I have asked them to stop talking about something they know nothing about. Read my reply on pg. 6. It amazes me that they pretend to be so knowledgeable about whetre I live and they know absoulutly nothing about what they are talking about. Except that anything can become a Blessing in Disguise if you personally reach in side and make it so….

I did read your comment… I hope they did. Their ignorance is only exceeded by their desire to share it with everyone!

One more thing after further reading your post or should I just say everything you say in regards to Katerina is FALSE. Total garbage. I do think Laura was a Good First Lady, but you sure have a whole lot of false information when it comes to Katrina….

Tell me, Jennifer D.: Why was it that the gov. of your state delayed declaring LA. a “disaster area”? You people do know that the Feds cannot, I repeat, cannot go into a state with rescue operations Until the area has been declared a disaster area. So what the hell was the gov waiting for??? Another question: Why were school buses sitting in the bus yard instead of evacuating people days B4 Katrina hit?? Oh, I guess your mayor was too busy moving out his family to Texas B4 the storm hit. Talk about stupid people voting a second term to incompetent people in office——-there is a grand example. They deserve the mayor they voted for.

Hello Irish Eyes, Gov.did not wait.Fact: Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco declared a State of Emergency for her state on Friday, Aug. 26. Full disclosure: The Post reported last week — erroneously, it turned out — that Louisiana had not issued such a declaration. A correction was published on Sept. 5. Fact: President Bush declared a State of Emergency the next day — the Saturday immediately before Hurricane Katrina hit. Fact: Presidential declarations of emergency are made after a request from “the governor of the impacted state, based on finding that the disaster is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the ability of the state and affected local jurisdictions.” Fact: Blanco sent a letter dated Aug. 28 to Bush — via the FEMA regional director — requesting that he “declare a major disaster,” and Bush responded by wisely declaring an emergency. There is a very slight difference, funding-wise, between declaring a major disaster and declaring an emergency — the difference is explained here — but both authorize “emergency protective measures.” Fact: A declaration of emergency “unleash[es] the support of any or all of 27 federal agencies. It also authorizes reimbursement of emergency work, such as debris removal and emergency protective measures.” Fact: There is a FEMA program called the National Urban Search and Rescue Response System (US&R) — now part of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Directorate (EP&R) of the Department of Homeland Security. According to federal legislation, it “provides specialized lifesaving assistance during major disasters or emergencies that the President declares under the Stafford Act. US&R operational activities include locating, extricating and providing on-site medical treatment to victims trapped in collapsed structures, victims of weapons of mass destruction events, and when assigned, performing incident command or other operational activities.” Fact: In the supplementary information for the National Urban Search and Rescue Response System legislation, it says (I’ve taken out some of the extraneous numbers and some unnecessary phrases for ease of reading, but the meaning is unchanged): Section 303 of the Stafford Act authorizes the President of the United States to form emergency support teams of Federal personnel to be deployed in an area affected by a major disaster or emergency. The President delegated this function to the Director of the FEMA under Executive Order 12148. Under E.O. 13286 of February 28, 2003, the President amended E.O. 12148 to transfer the FEMA Director’s delegated authority to the Secretary of Homeland Security, and under Homeland Security Delegation No. 9100, delegated the Secretary’s authority under Title V of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, which includes the Stafford Act, to the Under Secretary for Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R). Fact: The Under Secretary for Emergency Preparedness and Response is Michael Brown. (So, EP&R director — the head of FEMA, the guy the New Orleans Times Picayune said should “especially” be fired — had the authority to dispatch specialized rescue squads right away. Where were they? Why didn’t the president, under whose direction the Department of Homeland Security ultimately falls, insist on getting those teams on the ground — or in the air — as soon as the levees were breached and the flooding began?) Again, that’s without state requests. (This is not to say the the local authorities couldn’t have done more. For starters, they could have taken into account the substantial number of poor Now Orleans residents who wouldn’t have the means to evacuate. But they were right in the middle of it all, their resources overwhelmed, whereas the federal emergency management professionals are likely to have vastly more resources Why do you refer to those that live in this area as, “You People” ? Your tone is so attacking, why? Our Gov. has changed by election since Katrina. Our Gov is now Bobby Jindal. As far as The Mayor of Orleans, that very few people voted on. Their is this idea that New Orleans and it’s surrounding suburbs are all apart of the same city and Parish, that is not the case. Most of Orleans Parish was vacant at the time that the Mayor was reelected. He took absentee Ballots to Houston where most of those that could vote, where staying. Something that very few understand, this is a Population that has in the past had their homes flooded on purpose, to save the Up Town area of the City. As well they have the highest percent of Sickle Cell Disease anywhere, creating a very poor population.

Thanks Deber B. FYI I didn’t vote for Bush but I didn’t vote for Gore (who if he was as environmental as he claims in his film should have done something more while he was in office-it’s a major contradiction from him in my opinion) and not even the dog tag thrower. However, Bush did respond as quickly as possible in regards to Katrina. He did address this recently as well. In my opinion, it was the governor of Louisiana who should take the responsibility. Laura Bush is a true lady so I wish people who are posting would be a little more respectful. Show some class folks. And yes you are right those who criticize about activity in and around Iraq don’t know what they are talking about. For those who are doing the criticism, you all are welcome to join the military to get a first hand glimpse of what OUR soldiers have gone thru while serving OUR COUNTRY or when you see a soldier walking by you can say to him or her “Thank you for serving”. God BLESS America (never God D*** America) Take care-
