Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Immigration

I heard there’s going to be a reality show that tries to marry U.S. citizens to undocumented immigrants.

We don’t have many immigrants coming here to Edgetown, but there is talk of building a fence. The Mayor said, “We’ve got to do something to keep the teenagers from running away."

But I think, if the teenagers want to get out of Edgetown, they’ll find a way — fence or no fence. And I don’t think giving them a driver’s license is the answer, either. If they could drive, they would just be able to get away that much faster.

We need a fence around Michigan, too, to keep young people here as well. They are leaving for places with jobs and fun cities. I heard in Minnesota they have a hedge around a prison and that does the trick to keep the prisoners from leaving. !!! Love these low crime places - so sweet.

Can we stop calling the War with Iraq “the war?” This is not a war. This is an invasion and occupation. I think calling it “a war” is using the vocabulary of those who engineered this fiasco and keeps us from thinking about the real horror of it all.

I haven’t called it a WAR in a long time. invasion. in fact, there was a PBS special on “Bush’s War” but it was so clear after the first segment that it was Cheney and Rumsfields “war”. We have been so double crossed. The poor kids who have to fight over there!!! b.

Dear Diane, I agree, we are all tired of something these days. And I applaud your demand for clarity. It was, of course, not Iraq that attacked our country. So the war analogy might fall a little flat there, I mean in terms of Iraq and all. And thank you for saying we “can say we were lied to all we want”, because there were no WMD’s when we attacked and began occupying Iraq. Which is of course why we say, we were lied to. I don’t think we have any memory problems. I think we do have a great deal of other problems, that begin right with the fact that we were lied to and continue to be lied to, on a daily basis. And some us feel that is a very important thing to remember. But memories, like opinions, are selective. Some see a fool and call him a fool. Other people say he is guided by god. But mostly, I think, we can see who is by that tell-tale trail of blood that he leaves.

I will never understand why Bush has not been impeached? In any other Country, if a leader had done what he and his cronies have done, they would be out on their ear long ago. People would have taken to the streets to protest. Yet here in this country we just shrug our shoulders and say “what a jerk”. I think most Americans will accept ANY goverment as long as it doesn’t cost us personally (either in money or comfort).
