Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on Messes

When my sister Irene says
“Who made this mess?”
she’s talking about a few things
of mine that have somehow landed on
her side of the room.

When Mom says
“Who made such a mess of things?”
she’s talking about any place
in the house where I’ve been
for at least 10 minutes.

When Dad says
“Who made this mess?”
he means the garage.

But when I say
“Who made such a mess of things?”
I’m talking about the world!

Dear Readers: I wrote this composition for English class and got a B+. My teacher said I would have made an A but the page was a bit too messy.

Creation from chaos, that’s what I always say… “Everything in its place and a place for everything.” Yep, and sometimes, for me, everything all over the place. And, ‘nother thing, that ain’t no mess, that’s a work of art. It takes immense genius to arrange things in such a manner to awaken in the viewer, hear-er, smeller, toucher, their inner harumpher just so’s they can have their moment of superiority. Then I’m doing my part to unclutter the energy of messy hearts. As to who made a mess of the world….well like George said, I cannot tell a lie….oops, um…that’d be me. Ciao Edith.

Dear Edith Ann, Would that we could find the people who are making a mess of our world. I would like to have their names and addresses, street addresses, no e-mails. You and I can do e-mails because we know each other from the sandbox. You have a big picture screen on your thinker, Edith Ann, you consider the whole world. Your mom, dad and sister can fix the house, you keep being alert to the world. The world needs more Lerts. I love, Edith Ann. Peace and grace

I won’t be good at that, Mary Lou, Like Serena says, I’m more of the problem , not the solution.Edith

Serena .
Edith, I didn’t mean that YOU were part of the problem, silly. You have a lot of great ideas! You just need someone to help you put them into action.

Little person - big question. The only answer I have for you, dear, is that you are a very smart little girl and ask questions that give big people pause (and big kittys paws). That last part was a little joke. Your friend, Kitty

Iris, Here’s something that might help you straighten up your house. Learn to throw things away if you haven’t used them in the last year. That’s what I’ve been told but It doesn’t work for me. I use everything in the mess I’ve made almost everyday and sometimes twice a day. How about you? Edith

Miss Edith, Just got your question…absolutely all my messes are composed of usable/reusable resources. I threw a husband away cuz he hadn’t been useful in years. Does that count? Except he keeps showing up with stuff I had left behind…local thrift store’s getting retail from me, both giving and getting. Plus Mom always said, “better a messy house than a sterile heart.” Injoy, P.S. and get your mess clean-up kit ready, as the moving vans will be arriving at 1600 Pennsylvania in just under 5, count ‘em, five months.
