Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann on the Obama Family Interview

Did everybody see the big interview with the Obama family? I enjoyed it. I wish I’d been with them, but they have enough worries – they don’t need me hanging around. I love to see happy families being happy, don’t you?

But have you heard all the talk about the questions not being hard-hitting enough? Give me a break. What should those cute kids have been asked, for Heaven’s sake?

Did you ever hear your Mom and Dad say anything bad about Hillary?
Has your Dad ever lied to you?
Do your Mom and Dad ever have a heated argument? If so, what do they argue about?
Do you make good grades?
Who is the boss around the house?
How much is your allowance? Can you live on it?
What do you think about the photos in Vanity Fair that Hannah Montana took?
What are your favorite websites?
What are your favorite books?
What do you think about what Jesse Jackson said about your Dad?

I loved the interview, myself. The only thing I would’ve added was, when the girls said they wanted to get ice cream later, I would’ve certainly asked what their favorite flavor of ice cream was. It may not have been hard-hitting, but it would certainly be something we would all want to know.

Barack and Michelle’s daughters are intelligent, confident and adorable. It was interesting to see the family dynamics. Their Dad was being extremely cautious as he always is when making speeches and being interviewed. They seem to be a loving family with nurturing parents. If Dad wins the Presidency maybe he would be a nurturing leader.

edith ann, do you know what a link is? could you give us a link to the interview? i don’t think they should have asked the obama girls all of those questions, especially about vanity fair. that’s for grownups to battle with each other about.

Well to be honest I don’t think VANITY FAIR or any alike magazines should be for anyone’s eyes, children or adults for that matter! Taken from http://www.empoweredparents.com/1prevention/prevention_09.htm: “Statistics have shown that 50% of ads in teen girl magazines and 56% of TV commercials aimed at female viewers used beauty as a product appeal. In a recent survey by Teen People magazine, 27% of girls affirmed that the media pressures them to have a perfect body. 68% of girls in a study of Stanford undergraduates and graduate students felt worse about their own appearance after looking through women’s magazines. The number one wish for girls 11 to 17 is to be thinner. Girls as young as age 5 have expressed fears of getting fat. In a survey of elementary school students, girls commented that they would prefer to live through a nuclear holocaust, lose both of their parents or get sick with cancer rather than be fat. 80% of 10 year olds have been on diets. Of these, less than twenty percent are actually overweight. A 1984 study (Rodin, Silberstein and Striegl-Moore found that children view good-looking peers as smarter and friendlier than unattractive peers…and assume them to be happier and more successful.” We must learn to search for truth not just accept what we are sold/told to believe. My two cents anyway.

Little Fefe ~ There is nothing wrong with being too idealistic. It is just your dreams sparkling.
I think the interview was quite refreshing. It was “real” in a sense because it just captured them as a family, right there, living in the moment together reflecting on simple things in life quite intelligently. No back talk about someone or double talk - just a heart to heart chat. As for the critics or skeptics - heaven forbid if they show their tender side once and a while. As a society we don’t seem to value traits, such as intellect, tenderness, strength of spirit, passion or traits that inspire others to greatness. As for Hillary, I really enjoyed watching this candid interview with young starlets - Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera: http://youtube.com/watch?v=v8frN4Rou_s It placed them all in a lovely perspective because the issues discussed were just as real and they emitted so much elegance and sincerity.

Thanks for posting that youtube link! That was really interesting and I think Hillary could write an advice book with all the advice her mother gave her. Loved the dance.

Glad you enjoyed it! The dance definitely has potential to catch on …hehe It would be nice to see an advice book of some sort!
Blue Circle Girl
Edith Ann I heard that the kids are getting a dog! They themselves seem to be good negotiators at an early age. Michelle said the moment they told the girls that their Daddy was going to be our President the girls went into grownup mode and spearheaded a campaign to get a family pet! I like that don’t you Edith Ann? I can’t wait to see our new first dog!

Well, their daddy is not our president yet, let’s notch it back a couple. Wonder how they feel about leaving their friends and school?

Twinkling Star lady……nope…not willing to notch. Hope springs eternal in Little Land. Don’t worry though, I bet their parents will make sure the girls get to have lots of visits with their friends.
