Life in the Little Lane: Edith Ann's Plan to Save the World

I think we should all write Washington with ideas on how to make the world better. Here’s a letter I wrote:

Dear Senator:

I think I know how to make the world a better place. Here is my idea. Kids learn how to act in the world by seeing how grownups act in the world. I do not think the world can ever get better unless this changes. We must make grown-ups act better. If this is not possible, we will just have to put warning stickers on the ones who are not suitable for kids to be around.

To get this idea rolling, we could start by putting warning stickers on politicians.

Yours truly,
Edith Ann

Dear Edith Ann, Thanks for your letter. I’m the Director of an elementary school and would to have a little girl, who is such a great thinker to join our school. At our school we have a character award. I guess that means things in your personality. The boys and girls and teachers decided on the ways we want to behave and have a goal to show with our actions that we can actually show the trait to our friends and neighbors at our school. Last month, our trait was “thoughtfulness”. As a director, I was very busy. I spent my time saying, “Good For You” as the boys and girls brought in their “Caught Being Good” notes. I was so happy to see the boys and girls in our school being so thoughtful. Next month, in April, we will work on showing each other that we can be “honest”. I think i will be very busy saying “Way to Go. Great Job” when the students start coming to the office with their “Caught Being Good” notes. They already work hard to tell the truth. I think that maybe we should have a character trait for all the people, who are in charge in Washington. I would be so happy if I could thank these lawmakers for being “thoughtful’ and “honest”. Do you like that idea? www.blog.createanewseason.com

Dear politicians One and all: maybe you all should read “All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten” By Robert Fulghum. I quote “These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don’t hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don’t take things that aren’t yours. Say your sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life-learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap evey afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder.” Just for kicks read the whole book. Maybe we all should.

While I empathize with all of the above…people get the government they deserve. How is that 300 million citizens of the richest, most militarily and technologically powerful nation that has ever existed, allowed their government to use it’s full force against a contained nation, 2/3’s the size of California, including dropping depleted uranium—a weapon of mass destruction—on it’s major urban city of 5 million with 50%, children under age 15. And termed it rolling out a new product, “Shock and Awe”?** Because I rightly or wrongly believe it is up to the women to mend the world, I ask you….how did we become as a nation so divorced from our own humanity that we stand by while our government does this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLsZOjWPaRA I think more than ever it is up to all of us to be the active change we wish to see.**For me, I want to be, and want a president who is, as John F. Kennedy said, “In the Business of Mankind.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJrFpGYgMlE

Dear Suzanne , I read your post with great interest. I am very interested in what you call “Business of Mankind”. When I read your post the words of Bahaullah came to mind,” Let not a man glory in this, that he loves his country; let him rather glory in this, that he loves his kind. …” I am going to leave you with two sites that you may visit if your heart desires a better world. One is a Statement on Peace released by the Universal House of Justice: http://info.bahai.org/article-1-7-0-2.html . The second site is about the Mona Project:http://www.adressformona.org/. A good site to learn more about these woman that willingly gave their lives so that you and I and our childern might have a better world. Go to http://www.monasdream.com/

Suzanne I beleive people sincerley elect the people they beleive will do the best job. however, once elected they get booged down in the system that has chaned little in 200 years. As for Iraq yes we NOW know there were no WMDs but we can not un-do what is done in a short period of time. I am all for getting out ASAP but it must not be done to the detrminate of their country or ours. I am not sure ANYONE has a viable solution yet. But I do beleive that MOST of our leaders have sincere intentions of truly helping Iraq and stopping terriorizm (or at least slowing it down).

I think if every woman over the age of 50 decided to march on Washington D.C., do you think the politicians would listen?? Even if they didn’t I imagine they would be scared!!!

For years i have told my clients that the one reason things are the way they are is that the “boys” in power have had the vision of the Multi-Million Menopausal Woman March, cuz when we show up we’ll be locked and fully loaded, armored with chocolate and we don’t take prisoners. We’ll tell them, “It changes now and this is not negotiable.”

It changes now and this is not negotiable” I’d be happy to carry that sign in big bold letters.

Dear Senators, You all need to get back to work - like the real people of this world. You are spending too much time with mistresses, stealing and disguising “fun” as “work”. Like Sen Singer from New Jersey who has proposed a bill to look into a NCAA Women’s Basketball game time clock mishap. Is that why you were voted into office? Then there was the New England Patriot’s video tape controversy. How did Congress get involved with that? You all need to buckle down and get to work or you may be forced to get a real job like the rest of us.

I read a number of these posted letters. Are they serious? They appear to be tunnel vision to me. In a sense what they do reveal is the bankruptcy of the ‘old world system’ ( the nation state approach) to problems. In this New Era of One World they are tribal at best. I believe the answers to our social problems can be found in the Words of Bahaullah,” Let you vision be world wide”. He went on to say,”The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.” The Baha’i Teachings are very clear,”The disease of our time is disunity. Only after humanity has overcome it will our social, economic, political, and other problems find solution. I know this sounds all very heavy, perhaps too much for Americans that what ‘instant fixes” to all problems. If those who read this what a read change and a better world for both themselves and their childern should seek our the Baha’i Community in their neighborhood. Just recently an individual running for President made this observeration. Every Sunday for at least an hour American is segerated. The white go to their white churchs; and black to the black churchs. In Baha’i Communities this is not the case. There is no segeration. There is only one race the human race within the Baha’i Community. At Baha’i gathers you find all the people that are no suppose to be (according to the non-Bahai World). Interracial marriages are very common within the Baha’i Community. ( mine included, I am Asian married into an old traditional English family) If you are looking for answers I encourage you to seek out the Healing Message of Baha’u’llah. You can start your search here > http://www.bahaullah.org Happy Naw-Ruz ( New Year) 20. March, to everyone.

Tunnel Vision?” Oh, please, remember when Bahaullah was supposed to have written those words! Check out the population figures, too - “every Sunday?” Add up the churches, and figure … “attending church” doesn’t sync with the space figures. Segregation in Starbuck’s, Central Park, Galleria, La Madeline, other parks, newstands, sidewalks, malls, etc. ???? No religion, please. This is a kind request, this time.

Yes! I do know when Baha’u’llah wrote . It was not that long ago. His Message is for our time. Anyone who investigates it with an open mind will see it is for our time. As William Sears wrote in his book > The Kings and The Prisoner: How One Man Changed The Course of History
