American Idol Favorite Lil Rounds Tops Last Night's Semifinals

Last night’s American Idol saved the best for last.

Lil Rounds, the 23-year-old mother of 3, with the big soulful voice, ended the show with a blistering version of Mary J. Blige’s "Be Without You." Will she make the cut tonight, when three of the 12 performers are selected for the final round? If the judges’s comments mean anything — Simon said Rounds’s performance was his favorite "by a mile" — we’re sure Lil will be moving on.

The judges also liked Puerto Rican Jorge Nunez’s take of power ballad "Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me," and the likeable, visually-impaired Scott MacIntyre’s  “Mandolin Rain.” Other stand-outs: Felicia Barton, who replaced Joanna Pacitti (who was mysteriously dumped after Hollywood week), singing Alicia Keys’s "No One" and Kristen McNamara on "Give Me One Reason."

After tonight’s three finalists are revealed, a wild card round will let the judges pick three, and then the final 12 will be in place. At last. Who do you think America should pick, based on last night’s performances? Do you think Lil can go all the way?

Lil Rounds does have talent and a personality to match. I’m sure she will remain. There are so many wonderful contestants on the show this year, not only in talent but in humility as well!
