I was very into passionate "movie star" kissing when I was just a kid. Plus, I’d read excerpts from several neighbor’s marriage manuals. I initiated most of the kissing on my block — even if I had to tackle them and make them lie on top of me. Tommy Ransom was an early favorite; at some point, I moved on to girls. I can’t recall her name but I remember her always.

Kissing girls is WAY better than kissing boys: Girls/women are softer and they tend to smell nicer. Except for gay boys - they smell divine but, really, they’re no more interested in kissing me than I am then.

Well, you just go ON girl with your bad self! You Get ‘em Lily! What I would like to know is how you, as a kid, managed to get your hands on “several neighbor’s marriage manuals.” I envision a tomboyish Edith Ann huddled over an intricate plan (drawn with crayons) while conspiring with her closest neighborhood pals in preparation for a covert mission called “OPERATION UNDER THE COVERS.” You were a little devil—I LOVE IT! And I MUST agree with Pamela—kissing girls is WAY, WAY better than kissing boys. Any day!

I’ve yet to kiss a girl, but I did have to go stand in the hall for tackling Tommy Boyd and kissing him in the coat rack. I was six. But I don’t really count that as the first kiss, ‘cause he was screaming bloody murder the whole time.
