Limbaugh Blasts Powell for Criticizing Palin and GOP, Calls Him a 'Turncoat'

Rush Limbaugh isn’t letting Colin Powell get away with trashing him in public.

The conservative talk-show host unleashed a litany of complaints against Powell during his show Monday, calling him a “turncoat” for supporting Barack Obama, and someone who did “certainly nothing exceptional, you’re no George Marshall,” when he was national security adviser and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.

Rush’s wrath came after Powell, President Bush’s former secretary of state, told CNN that Republicans should stop listening to Limbaugh and said Sarah Palin helped polarize the party this election season.

Now, Limbaugh is arguing that the GOP hasn’t been listening to him – as evidenced by its selection of John McCain as the party’s 2008 presidential nominee.

You can read the Limbaugh transcript here.

Here are some of the juicier parts of what Limbaugh said:

You know what really has Colin Powell upset, it’s because I said his endorsement of Obama was about race, and I’m not supposed to say those things … The Republican Party nominated Powell’s perfect candidate. The guy’s going after moderates, independents, Democrats, a guy who is not conservative at all, McCain, didn’t stand up for much conservative, and he’s out there now saying he won’t support Palin if she seeks the presidency again, or he might not.

What’s going on here with this Colin Powell thing is that the Washington establishment — Powell’s not a Republican. McCain’s not a Republican. These guys are not even mavericks. They are Washingtonians. Washingtonians have their own culture and their own desires, and it is to matter.

There are exceptional military men and women throughout our nation who could have served as national security adviser or chairman of the chief joints of staff, to quote Rita X, many ex-military people who could have been the secretary of state. Hell, Hillary can do it, anybody can do it. I’m sure you did a good job, General Powell, certainly nothing exceptional, you’re no George Marshall. But I can’t think of a single occasion where Secretary Powell stepped up to the plate for the Republican Party or the conservative movement.

How can you even claim to be a Republican, General Powell? When have you ever stuck your neck out for Republicans and conservatives?  Never. I mean sabotage George W. Bush with the Armitage leak and Scooter Libby, that’s just one thing, but Ronald Reagan, Bush 41, Bush 43 all helped advance General Powell’s career."

General Powell has no vision. He is not in touch with the public in any meaningful way. He’s a Washingtonian. He’s not in touch with the public. He lives in a bubble so he doesn’t have to expose himself to contrary arguments.

He said nobody lives in small towns and that’s why they’re small. "I’m from the Bronx. Something wrong with my values" he asked. What is this hatred for conservatives and small town people and Sarah Palin? It’s because they are effective. They represent challenges to the Washingtonians’ control of the Republican Party. I know a lot of people that are from the Bronx, General Powell, and if you think the values there in the Bronx today reflect the ones you grew up with, take a trip back and see if the street corners and the activities there are the same as when you were growing up, General Powell.

You would have to tie me up and threaten to whip lash me before I would ever listen to this guy. Reading the transcript above I find it curious that people actually understand what he is going on about––his syntax is out of whack and his thought processes defy logic. But maybe it’s my problem. Maybe I just have to shift gears and think like Rush in order to understand all this rushing around from thither and yon. A mighty hard task, I think.

Phyllis, I’m right with you on this one. I have said for years that this guy is poison. And, Powell got a gold star from me when I read his statements. Good for him! Hopefully, as the years go on, Limbaugh will lose his prestige. What goes up has to come down eventually.

Diana: Like you, before I go to sleep at night I always read for awhile. My bedside book at the moment is “Supreme Discomfort” The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas. Ever since the Anita Hill/ Thomas affair I have been fascinated and puzzled by Thomas. I read the David Brock book and the Jane Mayer account and both solidified my belief that Thomas had not only lied about Hill, but lied to Congress as to his intentions on how he would serve. The reason I bring this up is that last night I read that Thomas and Rush became cozy friends and Thomas actually married Rush and his wife. Supreme Court Justices don’t usually do this, but Thomas got around it and presided over the ceremony in his own home.

Phyllis, I have always thought that Thomas is angry. He is a white man trapped in a black man’s body, and has never been reconciled about this. His kind of anger does not carry over to other black men in high positions that I have seen. They are proud to be attributes and role models.

Well, my mother used his book to prop up the game leg of a plant table on her front porch. I thought that was about right. Why do bigoted drug-addicted haters like this jerk get their own radio shows, me wonders. But more, wOw ignores very good writers, such as Serena Saye, right here in their own front yard and go off and drag this smell dead rat in and park it in the livingroom. Why?????? I’m on my blog if anyone is looking for me. www.mugsypeabody.blogspot.com

How is it possible for me to have this degree of disdain for one human being? How is he successful? Who is listening to this man? I just don’t get it…..

Sounds to me like we have someone here who listens to Limbaugh and makes as much sense as he does.

I know Jim, you’re right. And did you know Easter is a holiday and if you hold your finger over a flame for a long time, you’ll burn it? And also, did you realize that if you eat too much you’ll get a full stomach? …..I’m sorry, I’m assuming from your post this is the time where we drift off onto subjects that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand.

You’re wrong Jim. O.J. Simpson and the jury that acquitted him has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion thread on Rush Limbaugh. None. As for your query I will take a shot at answering it for you devoid of any sarcasm (as in my last post): You said: …”did Powell vote for Obama because Obamas black? Did twelve black jurors acquit OJ Simpson of double murder because OJ is black. Anybody have an answer. A good answer.” My answer….Yes. My question. Did some White Americans who chose not to vote for Obama do so because he is Black? Yes. Were some White Americans hoping to see O.J. convicted because he is Black (Beside the fact he is a murderous, ego driven waste of flesh)? Yes. Some people do allow race to affect their actions, beliefs and perceptions, this is not a new concept. I am missing your point and why you are bringing up the discussion of O.J. Simpson.

Merrell, I was wondering about the same thing in regard to “Jim” I have noticed a number of posters on this site who have multiple personas. Each with a different avatar, username but strikingly familiar writing style, opinions and words used for attacks. The mentally stunted and disabled have access to credit cards just as anyone else does. So they can buy computers, pay for online access and are able to learn how to type and use the internet. So it isn’t any wonder that these unfortunate individuals are here amongst us in their various identities. It does reflect a level of schizophrenia (serious condition) that one would choose to pretend to be two maybe even 3 people on one website at the same time. Chat, post, communicate and carry on in different personas. The question is why? What emotional satisfaction is obtained by doing this? What type of emotional rush? Given that I’m in full capacity of my faculties I can’t relate to these sad figures, but I do have sympathy and try to be gentle with them. For most of us this venue is simply to share ideas, debate topics, be informed of current issues among those we like, don’t like, agree with and don’t. But with the mentally ill on this site, they are becoming easier to spot. And when we do, all we can do is humor them and recognize that their opinions are coming from flawed brains that produce opinions that are skewed. Poor people….
