Limbaugh Blasts Powell for Criticizing Palin and GOP, Calls Him a 'Turncoat'

Rush Limbaugh isn’t letting Colin Powell get away with trashing him in public.

The conservative talk-show host unleashed a litany of complaints against Powell during his show Monday, calling him a “turncoat” for supporting Barack Obama, and someone who did “certainly nothing exceptional, you’re no George Marshall,” when he was national security adviser and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.

Rush’s wrath came after Powell, President Bush’s former secretary of state, told CNN that Republicans should stop listening to Limbaugh and said Sarah Palin helped polarize the party this election season.

Now, Limbaugh is arguing that the GOP hasn’t been listening to him – as evidenced by its selection of John McCain as the party’s 2008 presidential nominee.

You can read the Limbaugh transcript here.

Here are some of the juicier parts of what Limbaugh said:

You know what really has Colin Powell upset, it’s because I said his endorsement of Obama was about race, and I’m not supposed to say those things … The Republican Party nominated Powell’s perfect candidate. The guy’s going after moderates, independents, Democrats, a guy who is not conservative at all, McCain, didn’t stand up for much conservative, and he’s out there now saying he won’t support Palin if she seeks the presidency again, or he might not.

What’s going on here with this Colin Powell thing is that the Washington establishment — Powell’s not a Republican. McCain’s not a Republican. These guys are not even mavericks. They are Washingtonians. Washingtonians have their own culture and their own desires, and it is to matter.

There are exceptional military men and women throughout our nation who could have served as national security adviser or chairman of the chief joints of staff, to quote Rita X, many ex-military people who could have been the secretary of state. Hell, Hillary can do it, anybody can do it. I’m sure you did a good job, General Powell, certainly nothing exceptional, you’re no George Marshall. But I can’t think of a single occasion where Secretary Powell stepped up to the plate for the Republican Party or the conservative movement.

How can you even claim to be a Republican, General Powell? When have you ever stuck your neck out for Republicans and conservatives?  Never. I mean sabotage George W. Bush with the Armitage leak and Scooter Libby, that’s just one thing, but Ronald Reagan, Bush 41, Bush 43 all helped advance General Powell’s career."

General Powell has no vision. He is not in touch with the public in any meaningful way. He’s a Washingtonian. He’s not in touch with the public. He lives in a bubble so he doesn’t have to expose himself to contrary arguments.

He said nobody lives in small towns and that’s why they’re small. "I’m from the Bronx. Something wrong with my values" he asked. What is this hatred for conservatives and small town people and Sarah Palin? It’s because they are effective. They represent challenges to the Washingtonians’ control of the Republican Party. I know a lot of people that are from the Bronx, General Powell, and if you think the values there in the Bronx today reflect the ones you grew up with, take a trip back and see if the street corners and the activities there are the same as when you were growing up, General Powell.

Now, Limbaugh is arguing that the GOP hasn’t been listening to him” Extra point to the GOP… you can take a seat Rush… Now if we can get the very last few to stop listening to him, perhaps the counrty can make further progress.

Oh yeah? Well it seems Gingrich isn’t all that happy with the RNC either: “Gingrich Rips RNC For Its Blagojevich Attacks” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/16/gingrich-rips-rnc-for-its_n_151… Limbaugh needs ignorant, angry people as his audience. If ever the GOP decides to break away from the Know-nothings and offer more than fear and smear, Limbaugh won’t have a job.

Completely fabricated? So Bushco was so sharp that he fooled the UN, the CIA and 90% of the democrat legislators. I guess Bush even rehired the team that faked the moon landing to fake shooting at our pilots and pretend that those WMD missiles world TV showed Saddam cutting up just before the invasion were really what they said they were. He can’t be both the sharpest and the dumbest president we ever had - or perhaps he is just smarter and sharper than his critics.

fabricated” isn’t really the right word. Nor is “manufactured”. “Engineered” or “manipulated” would be more accurate. “Bushco” did not have to fool the CIA, they just had to give orders. They promoted intelligence that supported their agenda, and suppressed contradictory information - they cherry-picked the data. They fooled Congress by delivering misinformation. The same misinformation they supplied to Powell. They conned the UN by conning an honest man, one that the UN would trust, and sending him to deliver their message. We now know from captured documents and Saddam Hussein’s own mouth that he got rid of his WMDs after the first Gulf War. He kept the technology, and UN inspectors found, identified, labeled, and sealed weapon related material, but the weapons themselves were long gone. Hussein was running a bluff to keep Iran from invading. Bush did their dirty work for them.

Rush is the conusummate “choir leader” who preaches to his loyal choir members of “ditto heads.” He is a dangerous man as whatever he advocates his followers will believe, whether it is totally factual or not. I think he is almost Jim Jones like, in that I believe he could get a lot of these people to drink the Kool Aid he laid out if he convinced them that it was the thing to do. I know a number of “ditto heads” who cannot think for themselves in that they lead conversations with “Rush says” and this is what they believe, which is almost scary considering the number of loyal followers he has. I only hope that someday he will go too far, as he has already come dangerously close.

I refused to listen to Rush for over 20 years believing the things I read about him. I kind of started listening a couple of years ago when I had a long commute and was shocked to find out I agreed with him and that almost everything I had ever read about him came from people who were repeating things they heard. So many of you have said you disagree with him but you also say you never listen to him, so how do you know?????? I am not a ditto head, not a Kool-aid drinker. He must have an awful lot of followers.

So Rush Limbaugh the drug addict (this is not name calling, it is merely a statement of fact) gets paid 100 million dollars a year…This says SO MUCH about what is wrong with this country! Damn, people! I can direct you to areas teeming with fat dopeheads who do nothing but sit around all day and spout bullshit for free!!!

Yes, Merrell, he is, indeed a heart-warming example of a good conservative family man…He reminds me of that other wonderful conservative family man, Newt Gingrich, who had the compassionate feeling to serve his wife divorce papers as she was coming out of the surgery that diagnosed her with breast cancer. They’re real “stand-up guys”, eh?

Rush Limbaugh and the other hate mongers are now being exposed for what they are. The problem with evangelicals is that you can’t win arguements about the bible. Faith is not based on facts that is why it is called faith - it is belief without concrete data.

Who cares what that blowhard Limbaugh says? Altho I do believe Colin Powell is an opportunist more than a turncoat. He blows which ever way will serve him. It only takes a brief look at his career (his infamous UN appearance) to see that.

Me Now
When I think of Colin Powell, I see him speaking on Bush’s behalf about the war. I find his stance very 2 faced.

In the Federal government there is something called an ‘oath of office’. Where do you work?
