Linda Tripp Praises Obama's 'Purity of Soul'

We know where Bill Clinton is, but what in the world happened to the other players from the former president’s Monica Lewinsky scandal? Well, Ms. Monica went to study in London and hasn’t been heard from since. Literary agent Lucianne Goldberg, who helped break the story, has remained quiet for Lucianne Goldberg, and we’ve heard nary a peep from Linda Tripp.   That is, however, until wOw tracked her down to the Christmas Sleigh store which she owns in Middleburg, VA, with her husband.

With more than 1,300 products, the C. Sleigh, according to their website, specializes in handmade or handcrafted European wares. From mouth-blown and hand-painted ornaments, to handmade collector’s dolls, to nutcrackers, smokermen, hand-carved nativities, paintings and the most incredible selection of authentic and beautifully made Austrian "Trachten" clothing available in this country – the store seems to have it all. Walking into Linda Tripp’s shop is a walk back in time!

Speaking of which, back in time it was Linda Tripp who famously taped her then-“friend” Monica Lewinsky relaying her titillating adventures with the president. Interested in hearing what Tripp had to say of the recent election (yes, she’s a week late in returning our e-mail), Tripp relayed the following thoughts: "I am so very proud that as a nation we might finally be getting it right. I believe Sen. McCain is an American hero and a deeply honorable public servant, something one seldom sees in Washington. I also believe he could have been a strong president. That said, I believe President-elect Obama possesses an instantly recognizable purity of soul that, coupled with his brilliance, and, of course, his eloquence, brought quite unimaginable and long-awaited magic to the country, transforming red and blue states, quite literally, into ‘The Color Purple.’ I believe the entire country will stand behind him."

Thank you, Linda! Now we’ll wait for our nice Christmas tree bulb. Red or green is fine.

Well, it would be tempting to say something negative about Linda Tripp and her opinions, but then, she was just minding her own business in her store and was approached for comment, right? If that’s the case, she gave a nice statement. However, if she was the one putting herself out there with a comment, that would be a different story.

Hi, I like Linda Tripp. She was very brave to do what she did. It’s good to see she’s still around. She went through Hell, being a whistle blower (pardon the pun) over Bill and Monica, and probably put herself in danger by doing so. I find it ironic that Linda went through so much bad publicity and harassment way back when and Bill Clinton, that old skallywag, continues to get away with being…well, Bill. With Filegate, Monicagate, Travel Office Gate, Ron Brown and Vince Foster Gate, taking payola from Charlie Tree (pardon the spelling) and a list of crimes too numerous to mention, Bill and Hillary, his conspirator in all things unseemly, flourish. Now Hillary is being mentioned as Secretary of State. Hopefully, Linda’s life has become a bit easier for her. She did the right thing. But as we know, no good deed goes unpunished.

Taping a phone call while supposedly talking to your “friend” was a lousy thing to do.

I thought taping an individual’s conversation without telling him was against the law. Well, of course, not in the Bush Administration, but when we return to our American democracy, one would hope the laws would reinstated

It WAS against the law, but they used it anyway. This Linda Tripp is reprehensible in many ways. Now Bush has made it NOT against the law, as long as the president is doing it. I wonder how all the neocons and Republicans feel about the unconstitutional powers they allowed Bush all these years and now the Democrats have taken over?? Do you think they’ll be scared to talk on the phone now?

De, I believe that people think that others’ thought processes are much like theirs, and that is what creates so much divisiveness. So, yeah I do believe the Republicans, a fair number, will believe that a Demoncratic Administration will operate out of control because they know that’s what they did. Now, I’m hardput to explain Alan Greenspan’s naivte in thinking the Wall Street honchos would regulate themselves; obviously, Wall Street ‘funders’ were not sharing Greenspan’s same regulatory thinking. Well, actually, I guess that’s another example of the same theory: Greenspan assumed others could regulate themselves because he knew he could. Good to hear from you.

You could be right, that Greenspan REALLY believed that Wall Street would regulate themselves, but I think he just let ideology get in the way of common sense. Funny how the Republicans don’t think the average person will regulate themselves, ie, abortion, women cannot make a decision for themselves therefore there must be laws preventing them from making a choice, etc…. but then they think Wall Street will regulate itself.

Excuse me, Faye?
Yeah, we all know that President Clinton was a horny little devil. So what else is new under the sun? So are lots of executives; check out their marital records. The Clintons didn’t have a thing to do with the death of Vince Foster; what do you listen to in getting your information?
And, how do any of the items you listed compare with starting an unneccessary war that has resulted in the deaths of over 4000 of our best and our brightest. How does a $40,000 failed land transaction compare with the millions of un-accounted for dollars of OUR money that has gone missing in Iraq? How does a screwed up travel office compare with the torture of prisoners in Abu Graib(sp?) and the barbaric practice of waterboarding? Ron Brown was Sec’y of Commerce in the first Clinton Administration, and he was killed in a plane crash. What does that have to do with anything the Clintons did? How does that compare with the Billions of non-bid contracts in Iraq which has resulted in unfinished projects, kickbacks and a very corrupt business practice of Halliburton companies.
Crimes? What crimes when you think about the horrible events we all witnessed on our televisions with Michael Brown and the ravages of Hurricane Katrina? List them. Be specific. Crimes? What about the fact that this administration makes it a practice to spy on its own citizens on their phones and their computers? Perhaps a lot of Machiavellian Southern Politics, but at least we knew what the Clinton adminstration was doing because it was out in the open, not secret deals in the Vice-Presidents office with the oil barons.
And, the Clinton administration had some of the most talented people in government. They had a very dis-organized West Wing; it was famous in its informality. But, at least Clinton had some of the best minds in this country advising, and He Listened to the advice carefully and took it to heart.
As for Linda Tripp. She had her 15 minutes of fame. And, what she did had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with protecting us and upholding the Constitution. She saw an opportunity to look important and she took it. It had nothing to do with bravery and a lot to do with gall.

Be sure to speak up and say something funny so we know that you are there. You won’t regret this. Your friend………..and fellow southerner.

Greetings, Miss Agy! I just returned from holding an open house at which no one showed up. Lucky for me that I had Tom Friedmans’ new book Hot, Flat & Crowded with me. It is cold and windy outside; just the perfect weather for one of Mary Wells $4000 sweaters and $6000 throws. Perhaps I will settle for some good English tea and another book.
I’m ready for fun, no politics, no Sarah P..
I have an idea. We need to share some good soups on our quest to find warm comforts….

So, whats the matter with handmade or handcrafted beautiful wares made in America?
America has a multitude of very fine craftspeople who are true artists.

Particularly in these financial times, support your own.
