Linda Tripp Rips 'Secretary of State' Hillary Clinton

They may not be best friends, but Linda Tripp and Hillary Clinton definitely know one another. And Tripp definitely has a lot to say about the possibility that Hillary will be our next secretary of state — and none of it’s very supportive. Here, in a wowOwow exclusive, Linda Tripp tells contributor Sue Carswell why she thinks the former First Lady shouldn’t quit her day job and stay away from becoming secretary of state.

Hillary’s practiced performances never cease to amaze me, and performances they truly are.

I’ve always said that if an Oscar existed for “best performance in a leading role in a political arena,” Hillary would win hands down. One should not underestimate the true dichotomy here. Her ability to be convincingly dishonest in an accomplished and polished manner garnered her 18 million gullible votes. The girl is good.

But. I sat in an office in the West Wing directly next to Hillary’s for over a year while serving as executive assistant to the counsel to the president under Bill Clinton. So as to her appointment to the Cabinet, make no mistake; she will be on no one’s team. It is always about her own political agenda. Team Hillary is the only team that exists for both Hillary and her faithful staff minions as well. People comment on the Clintons’ 33-year-long marriage and their unmatched loyalty to one another. From a firsthand viewpoint, I know that their loyalty is first, last and always to their shared and quite unparalleled ambition. From firsthand observation, public opportunism vice public service is the hallmark of the Clinton “marriage” and it is evidently working.

I remember with crystal clarity the stunning mantra back in the West Wing of the Clinton White House in early 1993, shortly after the first Clinton inauguration. “Eight years for Bill, eight years for Hill!” The sense of entitlement was pervasive. It’s a safe bet that from her perspective, a pretender will occupy the coveted chair she so desperately sought and in fact believed she deserved, so watch for Madam Secretary to vigorously orchestrate not just in the diplomacy arena, but also in the game of Musical Chairs.

I doubt deals are cut these days in dark, smoky back rooms, but each candidate has “people.” I’m sure her people and his people cut a deal shortly after he wrested the nomination from her – it probably went something like this: “You want her 18 million cracks, she gets no less than secretary of state, period.”

In any case, I have a sense that President-elect Obama is not unaware of the Clinton idiosyncrasies so I am hopeful that he and his National Security team will keep a close watch on his new secretary of state as she reigns over her very own, albeit smaller for now fiefdom. I might offer a cautionary word of advice to the Protocol staff at the State Department, and that is that it might simply be a grand idea to lock up the antique silver before the Inauguration.

The best thing that could happen at this point would be for her not to be confirmed. Let her go back to being a Senator. I don’t think she is any too popular there either.

Elaine, I wonder how you know and can specifically attribute that Hillary is not popular in the Senate. Your information is right from those in the Senate that you speak with? Please. You reek of ignorance, prejudice, and negativity.

Dab, The new face is for the new job. Clinton Hunting. Clinton Trashing. Innuendo. This liar and devious political hack has been ressurected by the far right to go to work on the Clinton’s. The old face of the GOP is still on Tripp’s face inspite of all the surgery. She should be excoriated and ignored.

Hillary is a playa in a big league! It is the hope of many Americans that she will be SOS for our nation and NOT for Hill-n-Bill… For now, however, shouldn’t we give these people a chance to get into office???? Can’t we get the parasites out of the public arena before we start looking for the weevils in the wind?

Godessa, Let’s hope all good things for Obama and his entire cabinet and that we Americans can get away from toxic numbers like Tripp who is a for hire polical hack of the far right who can’t stop trashing the Clintons. Her pose as an admirer of Obama’s is a pose and cover for her current remarks as “Obama Protector”. This burnt out wreck with a new face is still doing what she did with the old face. Disgusting. Linda needs to get lost.

The Clintons don’t need any help being trashed. They’ve done it to themselves. BTW, Linda Tripp looks really good. I commend her for improving her appearance. I don’t like what she did in the White House, but she is entitled to her opinion.

Sue Carswell quotes Ms Tripp as saying Hillary Clinton is a thief, and vice is one of her hallmarks. Either this is a bit harsh on Ms Tripp’s part, or a terrible job of editing on Ms Carswell’s. Which is correct?

Carol I think people forget that by 1994 unemployment had reached 6.5% and was on the rise. Right now we are just creeping past 6.5%. During the first two years of his tenure the country lost jobs. They couldn’t balance the budget, not to say he didn’t try, the congresssional democrats were pushing him away from the goals he had set before coming into office. He had a very low poll rating which ushered in a republican majority in 1994 and the Contract with America. Then the budget got balanced. It took both parties to do it. Clinton ran on the platform of not raising taxes and he raised them by taking away deductions for small businesses, not large corporations like Halliburton that was a big donor to him. He signed legislation that raised all sorts of taxes on communications, utilities, all those little charges you see on many of your bills. They have increased in the last 8 years, but Clinton signed a lot of that into practice. He signed the bill to deregulate the banks, albeit he was pressured by the republicans, who had wanted it for years, but he also took a lot of money from Sandy Weil (?) the guy in charge of Citibank which morphed into Citigroup etc., who had lobbied for it for years. But he signed it when distracted by the hubbub over the Lewinsky affair. He cut way back on the CIA and FBI as well as closed down many bases which cost many people jobs. Base towns have businesses that serve the military. He turned them into ghost towns, and many small business were destroyed and people had to pick up and relocate. He offered no alternative for those towns or the people. It wasn’t so great for everyone. Our business did much better in the Bush years than in the Clinton years. It actually got worse because of the recession back in the 90’s. He also sold the Chinese some of our technological information. Well, the government didn’t get the money, but Clinton got money for Hillary’s campaigns etc. It was all very slick but the security around what the Chinese got was very sloppy, and they ended up with much more than was contracted for. After that, the speed in which the Chinese advanced, coupled with NAFTA, jobs began flooding out of the U.S. and ended up overseas. There was also much much more. Just to let you know. I voted for Clinton.

Frannie you keep trashin’ Em. Your take on some of what we know that’s old hat is not helpful and blaming Clinton for the current mess is absurd. Deregulation started seriously with Reagan who felt Government WAS the problem. There is blame all around, but your Current Events analysis along with the new critique mavens emerging from the waste of Linda Tripp’s repulsive post here, are not encouraging of the Change we all voted for. That WOW would be an enabler for the likes of Tripp is disturbing enough. She comes from a very evil place of toxic waste I thought we had voted to clean up.
