Liz Smith: David Foster, a 'Hit Man' With Heart

“No, I don’t think so. Barbra tested me years ago, and told me I just didn’t have it.”

“Barbra who?”

“Streisand.”

“The same Barbra Streisand who made ‘A Star is Born?’”

“Well, yes!”

“David, I think you can go get a second opinion.”

Liz’s phone rang again. As if reading Rosenberg’s mind, David said, “I can tell you my favorite moment working with Madonna. We were in the studio, and suddenly she stopped singing and lay down on the floor, moaning. I thought she was sick. ‘Madonna what’s wrong?’ She said, ‘I need a man. I mean, a real man!”

I asked, “What happened?”

David: “She got over it, and went back to the music. I didn’t volunteer and she didn’t offer. I just wasn’t her kind of man.”

Madonna’s loss, I’d say.

——————————

Before we parted, I did ask David Foster who he thought was the new sound, the new star — in music. He immediately said, “Charice.” She is the teenage Filipina beauty who first gained attention through appearances posted on YouTube. I asked her last name. David said, “It is ‘Pempengco.’ But forget that. This girl is going to be known by one name, like Cher and Madonna. I told her that, as soon as I heard her sing.”

Charice did appear for David in Las Vegas. She sang, “I Will Always Love You.”

Well, that’s the general feeling about this guy.

I agree .. I would love for david to record and hear me.. anne Bartee.com  and have him behind my career.. I get along with scropio men .. sounds like an honest man and not a phoney.. what alot of marriages and kids.. must have alot of payout for child support and alimony.. I wouldn’t want all that baggage either… other than that ..I wonder if the girlfriend wants to waste time with someone that won’t get married and wastes her time.. she is beautiful like Linda…

I have to admit he is incredibly talented, one need only look at the long list of songs he has written. But I have to admit I don’t like his personality, he is super annoying and kind of creepy…..

Using your logic there are no creepy and annoying men that have been married multitudes of times and father to children. You’re quite obtuse to think that way. I think you’ll find you thinking is in the minority.

Of all the talents mentioned, I enjoy Renee Olstead the most. Can’t wait for her new album to finally be released. She is a native Texan, Liz. Liz, I look forward to your Kim Novak interview coming out in another venue in a few weeks.
