Liz Smith on Why Kate Winslet Snubbed Harvey Weinstein on Oscar Night (Video)

Liz Smith tells all on Fox's 'Lips & Ears'

Of all people for Kate Winslet to thank during her Oscar acceptance speech for best actress in "The Reader," you would think producer Harvey Weinstein would be one of them. He wasn’t! Why? Weinstein released "The Reader" the same year she starred in her husband’s production, "Revolutionary Road." Despite reports that Winslet forgave the movie mogul, I’m thinking otherwise. Watch me on Fox News in the video below to hear what Winslet’s really saying about one of the most powerful men in Hollywood …

It’s a shame that the buzz is about whether Kate Winslet mentioned Harvey Weinstein - when the real importance of this win was - not only was it her first - but it was of a character who was not that likable!  THE READER captured - and explained something about the people behind the Holocaust, the ordinary people who worked at Auschwitz and Treblinka and on the trains.  The focus so often was on the love affair - but the underlying horror made real was what fascinated me.   And that Kate Winslet could make such an unpleasant character understandable, that was the glory of this movie.  (And does Harvey care what anyone says about him?)

Harvey W. is mighty powerful and can make and break careers.  Whatever anyone’s opinion is of him he should be considered "the boss" and stroked accordingly by Hollywood types.  It is a giant mistake to snub, embarrass or disappoint Harvey.

Harvey Weinstein receives plenty of recognition already - as a pig.

lol Tinka - lots of pigs out there.  Few have the power of Harvey Weinstein.  I’m a fan of Kate Winslet and I find the HW’s of the world repugnant.  However human nature is what it is and the reality is that the powerful generally expect to be stroked - particularly in the here today gone tomorrow of Hollywoodland.  Bruised giant egos will want revenge.  KW ought to have tossed the dog a bone.  If you want to be in that game there are some rules that should not be broken.
