Which celebrity stars will rise and shine in 2009? From up-and-coming actor Robert Pattinson (who supposedly doesn’t comb his hair) to the fantastic English actress Kate Winslet (who hasn’t won an Oscar — yet), watch the video below to find out who else I predict will be red hot in ‘09.

I think Jennifer Annison will continue to be red hot in the news. I don’t know why, can’t put my finger on it, but something tells me George Clooney will again regain his place as America’s hearth throb and we’ll hear alot about him in the news.

I agree that George Clooney would be a great politician. He could do what Obama did. Write a book first about all his escapades, get it all out in the open and control it and profit from it, and THEN run. But the danger is still that his enemies will dig up endless stories since he is an active single male with a strong “dating” gene. :) Sometimes there are individuals who can do more good by staying on the perimeter of politics, like how Oprah helped carve a new history in America by supporting Obama. This might be one of those cases.

George Clooney is our present-day Cary Grant. Plus, he comes from a very stable and lovely family. Of course, I am proud of him; he comes from Lexington Ky., and I have several friends who remember him running through their kitchens. His mama, Nina, is a sweetheart, as is dad, Nick, who you all may remember when he was on movie classics on AMC.

I hope it’s Sean Penn’s year at the Oscar’s…he was incredible in Milk.

Haven’t seen that, but plan to tomorrow. I think that film frightens a lot of people, and I say good for Sean Penn! Love George Clooney, not crazy about Jennifer Anniston.

V.S., did you see the movie, what were your impressions, I thought it was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and I thoroughly believed Sean Penn portrayed Harvey Milk well. I was not familiar with Harvey Milk or his story but I was moved by this film.

Maybe George will return to his roots. Kentucky’s Republican Senator Jim Bunning may well not seek re-election for several reasons though he says he will be on the ballot. That would be such an interesting campaign to watch as it evolved. Love Kate Winslet. Smart, genuine, beautiful, a wonderfully authentic woman. Liz - Robert Pattinson? The kid who boasts that he has bad hygiene? Please - no!

E. I agree 100% of your assessment of Kate Winslet. I hope we see much much more of her this year.

I like Clooney and I ADORE Cary Grant, but (unfortunately) there is no future for George Clooney in American politics because he has more in common with Cary than mere leading man good looks…

How about Larry Summers and Steve Chu? Larry Summers is one of the world’s best economic brains and will be advising President Obama on the economy and Steve Chu, a Nobel Laureate and head of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will be Energy Secretary. These are the type of star and celebrity that we should recognize, not some actor or actress with a pretty face.

More on Steve Chu from the LBL website: Chu, 60, is a Nobel laureate physicist and a Professor of Physics and Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California (UC), Berkeley. He is also one of the nation’s foremost and outspoken advocates for scientific solutions to the twin problems of global warming and the need for carbon-neutral renewable sources of energy. He has called these problems “the greatest challenge facing science” and has rallied many of the world’s top scientists to address it. In speeches to organizations around the globe, Chu has delivered a consistent message. “Stronger storms, shrinking glaciers and winter snowpack, prolonged droughts and rising sea levels are raising the specter of global food and water shortages. The ominous signs of climate change we see today are a warning of dire economic and social consequences for us all, but especially for the poor of the world,” Chu has said. “The path to finding solutions is to bring together the finest, most passionate minds to work on the problem in a coordinated effort, and to give these researchers the resources commensurate with the challenge.” If that ain’t celebrity worth celebrating, I don’t know what is!
