Liz Smith: From Prostitutes to Queens, We've Come a Long Way

Liz Smith

We dames will just plod along clawing our way to the middle and eventually the top. Women do seem to be on the rise even if slowly. I am reading The Decline and Fall of the British Empire, and reading history is very enlightening when one considers how women were virtual slaves until very recently. Women were just property, even the beautiful prostitutes, the rare princesses and the occasional queen or empress. We’ve come a long way, baby, and boy oh boy, does it ever seem like a long way!

I am always kind of blown away whenever i “realize” the reality of women’s lives in past history. Did you watch the series “Deadwood” or “Rome” off of HBO? I recently got into both of those series. Each of them was pretty graphic in their depiction of womens lives in that particular time in history. Neither were times i’d have wanted to live. When watching Deadwood my husband said more than once “I’d have loved to live back then” which was immediately followed up by me saying “no way in hell would i have wanted to live back then”

Lord have mercy, Liz Smith, has Her Majesty been informed of said decline and fall, and ,evenmore, there is a book about it? And yet, still with the tiaras. Hmmmmm. Peace and grace

the # of ‘parthogenetic’ species increases—-now the Komado Dragons are in—-and may have all male progeny—-so why men? when obvious evidence shows ‘all human as women’? once—-
