Liz Smith: The Stellar World According to Gossip Pit Bull Perez Hilton – It Ain't Pretty, But It's All We Got

Perez Hilton © AP
On the other hand, Jesse Metcalfe, who briefly became a hot item off “Desperate Housewives,” confronted Perez at a nightclub and demanded Perez stop printing that the actor was gay. Perez wouldn’t back down: “I think you’re gay.” Metcalfe then said, very seriously, “Do you know how many times I’ve fantasized about killing you?”

Ah, the more things change … Merle Oberon once sent Hedda Hopper a live tarantula. Joan Fontaine sent her a skunk. Spencer Tracy kicked her in the ass. So did Joseph Cotten. Of course, those were all “real stars.” I am sure if Perez has to go, he won’t want to be the victim of the likes of Jesse Metcalfe! Not until Jesse makes a comeback, anyway.

Liz honey, like Sarah Palin, as long as you keep writing about these horrible people, their 15 minutes of fame will just keep extending. Now quit and the next time you are in Austin I will make you homemade chicken friend steak with stand-up cream gravy just like my Mama taught me. Love you!

Belinda Joy
Belinda Joy caught in a case of hypocrisy. I just posted a response today in regard to the irreverent nature of Kathy Griffin and her raw humor. Stating how I loved her humor and those of her ilk. Yet when it comes to Perez Hilton I don’t get the raw humor, I don’t find it funny, to the contrary I find it juvenile. Little white paint smudges on photos of celebrities as semen stains and such. Nude photos of male celebrities pointing out their very small penises (or large as it were). His humor and commentary can be destructive. Viewing his website is the equivalent to driving by a car accident; you know you shouldn’t look, but something makes you slow down and stare. His fame is rooted in a large section of our society that thrives on gossip. He dishes out the pablum to those itching to hear the latest, and celebrities that want to get in on being part of the gossip. The upside is when he does speak it is usual true and valid. The downside is a lot of what he has to say should maybe go unsaid.

Besides, which, he needs to take some lessons on shaving and decent grooming. He looks like a slumbag.

Thank you for the interesting link, DP…..”How do I market my work now?’…is the refrain I hear from nearly all of my friends…most of whom are full time working artists….and it doesn’t matter how long they have or have not been “established”….Many of us are new to networking and are pretty bowled over at the potential that is here….And once you’re in a cozy marketing “groove”, it can all too quickly become a well-intentioned rut……Challenging times for everyone of course…..Shame on me if I can’t bring enough creative thinking to bear……I appreciate the little nudge from you…! HNY…..

Georgia, I didn’t see the link that DP posted as deleted…maybe you can repost. Also if don’t know about it www.etsy.com is a great place….a neighbor has made almost $100K there with her things in under 9 months.

Allo Caramello….I am a bit baffled by this deletion……When I checked on the Commandments, I’m guessing that it is about not selling goods or services……Apparently that is Dorian’s only post….So why can you say “etsy” and she can’t list her artists’ network that is evidently a free networking spot? There is so much that I don’t understand or pretend to know…….puzzled…baffled…that’s me…….and I hesitate to repost because I might get zapped……Maybe we will be allowed to discuss it further……..Maybe we can take it all the way to the Supreme Court of WOW arbitration……..silly…..silly…..sorry…….. I think you were the first to point out etsy to me…..I’ve mentioned it here a number of times, especially before Christmas when I really felt that it was important to Buy Handmade, etc……. I house sat in Carmel for a summer and just loved it…found the Henry Miller book(s) in the homeowner’s library, got avocado poisoning and a serious fresh citrus rash and more “culcha” than I could process in a lifetime……..If envy were in my vocabulary, I would be quick to envy you……at the very least, geographically…… Now about this friend with the 100K….what was she selling? Food?

Georgia, Maybe the delete was an error….you can post other’s links just not advertize your own when it appears that Dorian was trying to be helpful and post things that could benefit others on this site… So etsy.com is a site for artists to sell their things, it’s free, and it is one of the busiest sites on the web. The woman I mentioned took WWII era posters off a public domain site for free had them silk screened and sold them on etsy for $25. each and over 3,500 [they have an apropos message for today] she also recommended a nice IKEA frame, etc. Everything needs to be handcrafted. RE Carmel..how fun re your housesit…sometimes it’s even better to go to a place for a compressed period of time…you always notice and remember the magic then and don’t take it for granted…and it stays with you. So many great places in the world to be in.

I remember your story now about the reprints……and about public domain……and, of course, you know that “intellectual property” is so much more problematic in the days of the internet…….Not that I’m trying to steal the copyright to anything…….How can it really be regulated? I’ll just go to federal prison for copyright infringement if I really have to………(just kidding…..but it beats hell out of being Bernie Madoff) I’m so glad to hear that it’s one of the busiest sites on the web………it will only take me twelve days, non-stop, to figger out how to get connected to PayPal……What I really love about it is that it is both vintage and art/craft…….Resonates with me……. Re Caramello……..For such a laid back place, I was never so busy…tending the roses, deadheading the gardens, skimming the pool, walking the dogs, trying to trade Kentucky food stamps for antique Volvo repairs so that I could go to market……..The Henry Miller thing was something about oranges……..and what’s-her-name…..Erica Jong was taking notes………you are in the same latitude, I think, as Majorca…….the bouganvillea(sp) etc………..Only two places I’ve ever been…………Except for here with all y’all………. Oh…and that’s a wonderful story about the posters………are you still working on a book or do I have you confused with somebody else who lives in California?

Georgia, finished the novel last Dec in UCLA writing program where essentially had focus group of hundreds of fellow students/instructors who read/critiqued…then had it professionally edited, and then when my brother died in July just set the whole thing aside. And may do as an ebook as makes more sense to me in the economy and with my goal to do everything online and totally independant. The irony is worked so hard to do it and complete the program and then when all done became rather ambivalent and one of the main reasons is do not want to travel around hawking it in book stores…but am fine to do online..and think can make just as much as very good Internet marketer. So will ramp that up again…have a lot going on with relocation back to Carmel, etc. BTW I believe that you can call PayPal and that they will help you set up account online. esty has online forums that will help you with how to process things etc….I’m not all that familiar with it just know for sure about others success with it.
