Liz Smith: Tell Me It's an 'SNL' Skit!!! Are Tina Fey and Sarah Palin 'Pal'in Around' For Real?

New BFF? AP/Flickr
Here’s one rumor that dropped on my desk covered with grains of salt. Still and all – why not? Can it be that Sarah Palin and her brilliant doppelganger, Tina Fey, have forged some sort of friendship?! My source insists, “Fey and Palin don’t talk politics. Just ‘mom stuff’ and pop-culture chitchat, like TV and movies. There’s a yin-yang aspect to it. And now it seems a ‘lock’ that Sarah will return to ‘SNL’ this year.”

Stranger things have happened: the rise of Sarah Palin, for example! So I won’t count this out totally.

——————————

Speaking of Gov. Palin, remember last year when we told you Lifetime TV had a pilot in the works titled “The Amazing Mrs. Novak,” which bore more than a passing resemblance to the career of  Sarah? Well, now – even though the pilot, which starred Amy Pietz and Kristin Dattilo, was deemed very good – it won’t become a series.

The failure of John McCain and Palin to reach D.C. might have something to do with the pulled plug, but there is also concern about the surreal Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich scandal. Some Lifetime honchos just said, “Nothing about governors this year!” Oh, come on you guys, be brave and innovative and snarky – combine the Palin and Blago stories. (If not, Showtime, here’s your next “Dexter!”)

The governors wouldn’t care. These two canny politicians are 21st-century celebs: There’s no such thing as bad publicity.

Jim, Don’t you have some porn you should be ogling? Or how about pretending you’re someone else on Second Life? Oh I see, taking a break to play on a women’s blog site. Not welcome among men’s sites eh? Can’t hold your own among men….or is it you’re TOO comfortable among men? Hmmmm…..

Oh you are gay? I was assuming you were closeted in that regard, I didn’t realize you were openly Gay. Okay now I understand everything. You receive 25 replies a day on Facebook and 99 female friends on your MySpace page, well Jim you should be so proud. So many people online want to associate with you. I’m quite different from you, I have more friends in my day to day life, people I actually spend time with, have dinner, lunch, see a movie, play, art museums, go for walks, book signings, antique shopping, travel, sports events, etc etc.etc. I prefer to have “real” friends so I can have real conversations and connections. But I guess that’s just me. :-) I didn’t realize McDonald’s and Taco Bell accepted resumes? But if you need my help I’m here for you Sweetheart.

Belinda, I don’t believe it for one second. Tina is oppossed to everything Palin stands for. She is also very humane, intelligent and gracious…and a producer of her show…so she might have her as a guest.
Belinda Joy
I agree. Tina does seem to be truly gracious. I would be shocked beyond words if this rumor is true, but I wouldn’t rule it out completely. It would just be really heard to believe.

I agree… also, if Tina needs some other woman to talk “mother talk” with, I’m sure she doesn’t have to look to Alaska for one.

I’m not surprised as may say she is a very nice woman. Some can over look difference in opinions on politics and just communicate as one woman to another. Sarah once said that she would hope that many womans rights advocates could look beyond the differences and focus on the similiarities as she does with her own friends who are of BOTH party’s Actually had there been no Sarah…many would not know who Tina Feys is. I admit I did not. Her impression has sparked a flame in Tina’s career.

S. J. “Some can over look differences in opinions on politics and just communicate as one woman to another”. That is what I’ve been trying to see on this web site — “overlook differing opinions and just communicate as one woman to another”. My friends and I, with opposing opinions are able to do that in “real” life. However, I guess on WOW it sometimes doesn’t work. Maybe the two of them respect each other’s body of work. And, I have to agree, I had no idea who Tina Fey was until her Sarah Palin spoofs. And, I think it did spark a flame for Tina.

Tina Fey had been around for quite awhile, and well known. Did anybody have a clue who Sarah Palin was prior to late in the election, unless you lived in Alaska?

Well, gee, thanks for all the info. I just had no idea, and it’s nice to know that you know I don’t follow politics. What else do you know about me? I just do happen to avidly follow politics, and as a long time Republican, who once worked for the Goldwater campaign when living in Washington, I voted for Obama this time. Not because of, as you say,the BS of his campaign. He was just the better candidate. And, of course, there was no BS in the McCain/Palin campaign. Are you the one who ignores all issues? It’s pretty bad when one cannot make a statement, not even mentioning Obama at all, since the subject was TinaFey/Palin without getting attacked by a sore loser.

I M Lizzie: Did anybody have a clue who Sarah Palin was prior to late in the election,… If you’re suggesting Tina Fey made Sarah Palin well known, you might be on the wrong track. I’m sure Sarah Palin has been known by all the governors of the U.S. for quite some time, plus all the Republican and many Democratic bigwigs for quite a while. She was on the Charlie Rose show a few years ago with Janet Napolitano and did an impressive job, as did Janet. Sarah Palin is not the caricature you make her out to be. She is known by those who matter.
