Liz Smith: Tell Me It's an 'SNL' Skit!!! Are Tina Fey and Sarah Palin 'Pal'in Around' For Real?

New BFF? AP/Flickr
Here’s one rumor that dropped on my desk covered with grains of salt. Still and all – why not? Can it be that Sarah Palin and her brilliant doppelganger, Tina Fey, have forged some sort of friendship?! My source insists, “Fey and Palin don’t talk politics. Just ‘mom stuff’ and pop-culture chitchat, like TV and movies. There’s a yin-yang aspect to it. And now it seems a ‘lock’ that Sarah will return to ‘SNL’ this year.”

Stranger things have happened: the rise of Sarah Palin, for example! So I won’t count this out totally.

——————————

Speaking of Gov. Palin, remember last year when we told you Lifetime TV had a pilot in the works titled “The Amazing Mrs. Novak,” which bore more than a passing resemblance to the career of  Sarah? Well, now – even though the pilot, which starred Amy Pietz and Kristin Dattilo, was deemed very good – it won’t become a series.

The failure of John McCain and Palin to reach D.C. might have something to do with the pulled plug, but there is also concern about the surreal Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich scandal. Some Lifetime honchos just said, “Nothing about governors this year!” Oh, come on you guys, be brave and innovative and snarky – combine the Palin and Blago stories. (If not, Showtime, here’s your next “Dexter!”)

The governors wouldn’t care. These two canny politicians are 21st-century celebs: There’s no such thing as bad publicity.

Hiya Lady G. - I saw Tina Fey in a television commercial with Martin Scorsese for American Express. That is where I first heard of her.

Bonnie - Wow —that’s where I first saw her also. Never did watch SNL — mainly because it came on so late and I was either out or already snoozing. :) I watched her a couple of times because I knew she was going to do the Sarah Palin thing. And, of course, I watched when Sarah was on the show. Since then — haven’t watched since the election. By the way, before I forget, there was a poster from the San Francisco area who used to post on here — she, I think was a Professor. If I remember correctly she had an Oriental background. Used to love her posts. She hasn’t been around — do you remember her name? I also miss Star. I was delighted to see you back again. I’ve missed your posts. Welcome back and a Happy New Year!

Hi Lady Gator, I think the poster to whom you refer is Eleanor Roche. I miss her, too; also Star. Kitty is busy with her own website as a financial planner so she doesn’t post here any longer.

Bonnie…That’s it! Her name was Eleanor. Sorry I just got back to you — I was over on the Ann (tell it like it is) Coulter site. Wish all those ‘new posters’ (who seem to have Deburca and Carmel all shook up) would go on to some of the other threads. I will also miss Kitty — loved her posts as well. Does that mean that you, Marjorie, Elaine and yours truly are the last of the best?

Some have said that had Sarah been a Dem or even and Independant and abortion rights advocate..they would LOVE her. I do think there is some truth to that!

My own sister (a staunch Dem) was sending me lots of negative unverified propaganda on the Palins’s. Fed up with it I sent an email back reminding her…”did you forget that you were pregnant when you got married at 17”..duh! and infact lived in Alaska at the time while her husband worked the pipeline. Palin Derrangement Syndrome..at it’s worst!

S.J.- Thank you for posting this. I got unverified propaganda emails on the Palin’s when she first arrived on the scene. I was so turned off by it that that is one of the reasons that I decided to give Gov. Palin a chance and really think about this election. I NEVER voted Republican before. I saw a lot of things from the Dem Party that was pretty ugly and now I read about Gov. Richardson who is also a Democrat. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28493919/ Needless to say I am sadden, he was Hispanic and I was really cheering for him. Anyway thank you for posting and standing up for yourself and not allowing people to intimidate you. You are right about the Palin Dearrangement Syndrom at it’s worst.

Tanja P. .. Governor Richardson is just another politician who was influenced (if this story be true) by someone — it’s called the “wineing, dining and pocket lining” of your favorite politician of the day! :) He certainly isn’t the first and he won’t be the last!

S.J., I’m just curious … did your sister reply? There are those on both sides of the aisle, who circulate negative unverified propaganda … it’s all so unecessary and tiresome. I have an old friend, who is a rabid Republican, who sent me all sorts of garbage about Obama’s citizenship and religion, and I finally had to put a stop to it. I began by telling her that I had always considered her too intelligent to buy into that kind of garbage, and that she, unlike Obama, was born abroad and would be so unhappy if her citizenship was questioned. I didn’t hear a peep after that.

Tina Fey is hugely popular not just from SNL and “30 Rock”, which she developed and in which she stars; she was one of Barbara Walters Ten Most Fascinating people of 2008, one of Time Magazine’s “100 People Who Shape Our World”, and one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2003. If people don’t know who Tina Fey is…maybe they should open their eyes and look around. Her 5 Emmy Awards were for: Outstanding Writing - 2002 SNL Outstanding Comedy Series- 2007 30 Rock and 2008 30 Rock Outstanding Writing - 2008 30 Rock Outstanding Lead Actress - 2008 30 Rock Her Golden Globe Award: Best Actress - 2008 30 Rock Her Screen Actors Guild Award: Outstanding Actress 2008 30 Rock I do not believe this story….they are never going to ‘pal around’ they couldn’t be more polar opposites in their politics, values, and worldviews. And Tina doesn’t waste much unproductive time. What might be true, perhaps, is getting Palin as a guest on “30 Rock” because she goes after guests appearances that boost ratings, like Oprah, and even controversial ones like Palin. With Tina a producer of her show, too, that level of interaction would make sense.

Had NBC put 30 Rock in a better time slot, rating would be great. NBC also offers the show for free through it’s site, so that’s another way people get to see it. It’s one of those old-fashioned, yet up to date, comedy series. I can see Tina wanting Palin on the show. It’s a win-win for both of them.

So if you do not watch SNL or 30 Rock you are less than human. Pleez!

Sort of the same thing you say about those who don’t care for Sarah Palin. Everyone has different likes and dislikes.

SJ, “One of Time Magazine’s “100 People Who Shape Our World” in 2007. The point was that some here posted that they didn’t know who Tina Fey was…and attributed her ‘new’ high profile to her doing plain shtick….when Fey was one of the 100 most influential people in 2007, etc. How you arrive at your ‘not watching SNL or 30 Rock’ statement reveals a very odd sense of ‘logic’ and conclusion.
