Liz Smith: Tell Me It's an 'SNL' Skit!!! Are Tina Fey and Sarah Palin 'Pal'in Around' For Real?

New BFF? AP/Flickr
Here’s one rumor that dropped on my desk covered with grains of salt. Still and all – why not? Can it be that Sarah Palin and her brilliant doppelganger, Tina Fey, have forged some sort of friendship?! My source insists, “Fey and Palin don’t talk politics. Just ‘mom stuff’ and pop-culture chitchat, like TV and movies. There’s a yin-yang aspect to it. And now it seems a ‘lock’ that Sarah will return to ‘SNL’ this year.”

Stranger things have happened: the rise of Sarah Palin, for example! So I won’t count this out totally.

——————————

Speaking of Gov. Palin, remember last year when we told you Lifetime TV had a pilot in the works titled “The Amazing Mrs. Novak,” which bore more than a passing resemblance to the career of  Sarah? Well, now – even though the pilot, which starred Amy Pietz and Kristin Dattilo, was deemed very good – it won’t become a series.

The failure of John McCain and Palin to reach D.C. might have something to do with the pulled plug, but there is also concern about the surreal Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich scandal. Some Lifetime honchos just said, “Nothing about governors this year!” Oh, come on you guys, be brave and innovative and snarky – combine the Palin and Blago stories. (If not, Showtime, here’s your next “Dexter!”)

The governors wouldn’t care. These two canny politicians are 21st-century celebs: There’s no such thing as bad publicity.

If there was something more than a ‘gossip’ putting this story out, it might be worthwhile. It is just another trivial bit of sensationalism journalism. Can we just put palin aside, please! If she was so oppositional to everything progressive, in this world, I would not be so down on her. As it is, she is not well read, not very intelligent, not sophisticated, not amusing, not a “mother lion” kind of mom, and exposes her children to all kinds of crap - which is perhaps newsworthy, but, not real bright! And, not very endearing as a mother. I dislike most of what she stands for, and am thoroughly disappointed that she is unbendable, at all. She is unwilling to reach out to opposing points of view - to find some middle ground, and doesn’t even seem to know how to, in the first place. If, she was more open minded, and neutral, I might actually find something about her to appreciate. Alas! In my opinion, Palin puts women back an entire generation! How in the world would Tina Fey find ANYTHING in common with Palin, except they are both women. ???

Ro—So right on, everything you wrote. Tina Fey might be polite to her, might even have her on the show…that doesn’t mean there is a chance in hell they would be pals any more than Al Gore is going to be friends with Rush Limbaugh. People must really be dumb to buy such nonsense.

ACC, S, E.B. I couldn’t bear to type out the whole name. I can’t recall seeing any woman so hatefilled as this person! Gawd, when I saw your user name, I quickly ran the other way! You may want to consider making a change… I wasn’t certain if you are friend or foe. lol Thank you for your support. I so agree! Why in the world would someone like Tina Fey WANT to hang out with the vile person on the other end of the jokes.??? Sorry, I am just so sick of the ugliness put forth all in the name of “family values” - “chistian values” - and “morality” - when in fact, they are NONE of the above!?? I also do not want to be a part of the awful, hatefilled, rhetoric, either - so, I need to simply begin to ignore the idiocy! Thanks again.

I hope that Carmel by the Sea is not Doris Day who, along with Kim Novac and my wife of 54 years are my all time loves. The admirers of the P-51 Mustang join me, even though the P-51 was one of the three aircraft that attacked me. The Skunk Works, where the Mustang was designed in 2 months was an organization that I attempted to emulate in my now half century of engineering. Get the managers out of the way and let the engineers engineer. My life’s disappointment was when the Air Force recruiter said I had the highest written but the worst eyesight of any candidate Parks Air Base had ever seen. Successful fighter pilots usually are 20/15 or better. Palin would have fitted well in an integrated Skunk Works.

Are you aware that Fey’s parent are Republicans? “”I grew up in a family of Republicans. And when I was 18 and registering to vote, my mom’s only instruction was ‘You just go in and pull the big Republican lever.’ That’s my welcome to adulthood. She’s like, ‘No, don’t even read it. Just pull the Republican lever.”’ (Fey made a call to arrange for Richmond’s excited Republican parents and sister to meet Palin at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania.)” I assume she loves her mother too!

S.J.—That is from the Vanity Fair article. You neglected to say that Fey is not a Republican. Not even close. But like me and many others, she grew up in a family of Reps., then made up her own mind. The article is illuminating. Anyone here still debating whether or not they are friends should read the article.

Did not say they were BFF’s thepoint ( in case you missed it) is she has people in her life that are Republicans and seems to be able to still like them in spite of their political registration. She had enough of a relationship to ask Sarah for tickets to attend her rally for her family to attend. That says something to me even if it does not to you! I have some loony good friends & family that are Dems to…. I do not hold it against them and nor do they to me! ( For the record I am a registered Independant..but lean to the right more than the left…..I did nto leave the party either…they left me after being a Dem for 35 years.) When I became self employed 20 years ago and matured with children of my own I started understanding how the right feels. My left learners …..just do not talk politics in each others company!

unraveling of the Dems, the topic would be more meaningful. By Marjorie C. on 01/05/2009 6:50 am Or unraveling of the Republicans. I don’t understand how the right feels. I believe in having a middle class and government should work for the people and is not the enemy to be destroyed. We see how corporate greed works if left unchecked. No matter what the subject we talk about whatever. Sarah and Tina Fey are not friends. I just saw an interview that Sarah did and she said Katie and Tina exploited her. She took credit for Tina’s sucess and Katies highter ratings. She said if she were a democrat the media would have treated her better. She said the press is not treating Carolinge Kennedy badly. Oh really?
