Minnelli Signs on to O'Donnell Show

Liza Minnelli’s making a singing, dancing return to television next week!

Rosie O’Donnell announced late yesterday that the legendary singer, whose last televised performance came on the sitcom ‘Arrested Development,’ will take the stage with her during O’Donnell’s NBC special, "Rosie Live."

O’Donnell couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Minnelli, who she quite rightly describes as "showbiz royalty," and promised that the two will perform a duet: "This isthe dream for every girl from Long Island who ever sang in the mirrorto ‘Cabaret.’ This is as good as it gets for me."

Neither O’Donnell nor Minnelli will confirm which track they’ll sing next Wednesday, November 26, but O’Donnell says it’s a song Minnelli hasn’t performed in more than 30 years. Any guesses, readers?

Minnelli’s not the only lovely lady appearing on the hour-long special — Alanis Morissette, comedienne Kathy Griffin and the sensational Jane Krakowski will all take the stage. The fun and excitement begins at eight o’clock PM — plan accordingly.

I wouldn’t watch a Rosie O’Waddle show if the world was threatened by a tidal wave, bubonic plague or a martian invasion!

Why is it that when women don’t like someone the jugular they go for is weight? Simple minded insults come from simple minded people. And I’ll bet if the world was going to end, the person who wrote that awful comment would watch whatever was necessary to save her own miserable life.

Sad, Jai - it’s insecurity, and having lived themselves with assaults. IOW: defensive posturing. OTOH, I’m not a fan of Ms. O’Donnell, and really wouldn’t watch her shows after her manipulation of her “breast cancer” efforts years back, using Ford as her wedge.

Ah Jai ——-Just don’t be too timid and squeamish about your remarks! This simple minded person used to watch the view when this loud mouthed, truly offensive person’s mouth overloaded her equally ‘round’ butt! She acted like a drunken sailor on a Saturday night. I have to stand with “The Donald” on this one. (His bad hair and all). Now, whoever, the heck you are, or whoever you THINK you are, give me some more of your self depreciating hogwash because I made an “awful” comment about “The Donald”. And, by the way, women on here, when criticism turns to other women ,do not always go for the weight — it gets much dirtier! If what this “small minded person” said insulted your sensabilities, then you are in for a rude awakening! Sorry you don’t like my awful comment — hope you get over it!

Oh, and Jai — I’m sorry my reply was so short — the martians just landed and I must go save myself!

Say what you want about Rosie but she’s a creative force to be reckoned with, she has a tremendous fan base, and her uppermost intention is to be a positive force for good. I say like her or leave her - I’m sure she’d had very much the same message for her critics here (everywhere). There’s no need for the rude commentary. Good luck to Rosie and to Liza! I’ll be tuning in on November 26 on NBC - www.nbc.com/Movies_Specials_More/Happy_Holidays/ By the way, if anyone at NBC reads this, the NBC site lists her show at two different start times: 8/7c 9/8c I believe that 8/7c is correct but …

I enjoyed the Rosie daytime show when it was on, and I enjoyed her on the View. Looking forward to seeing her special and hope it means I’ll be seeing more of Rosie in the future.

Rosie will make a go of it. It’s all about getting good guests. She seems to be off to a rocking start.

I don’t know what to do? I like Liz but don’t like Rosie. So do I watch or not watch the new show? Hummm I think I need a drink on this one.

I suppose it just comes down to, we will watch or not watch. My personal misgivings if you will, are that I find Rosie just too abrasive at times, other times she can be very compassionate. It seems like the rest of us, perhaps. It depends on what kind of a day we are having, and whether you get to ‘catch’ us in a good mood, or not. I don’t know if I will watch or not… It depends on what I am doing and if I happen to tune in. I used to be a real Rosie fan until she kinda blew me off. Or at least that is how it felt, when I posted something, (important to me) on her website. I never heard from her, nor did I get a real response. And, I was trying to be humorous, too.

She’s just misunderstood. She’s not one of my favorites or anything, but I can tell a misunderstood person with good intentions from miles away. People often mistake her passion for anger (considering the traumas she faced growing up, it’s only natural that she’d grow up so impassioned), and unfortunately they most likely wouldn’t if she were heterosexual or at least more glamorous. It’s the sad, simple truth.

Kryssi, ya … if Rosie had the face and body of Sophia Loren or Elizabeth Taylor in their heyday there’d be a lot less trouble and many more free passes on the table for her. Some people, in particular men, just hate her with a passion and there isn’t any one reason that fully explains it for me. I’ve asked a few people who’ve voiced their intense dislike of her what it is exactly that they hate about her - and none can ever put their finger on it but they just want her hung out to dry. Perhaps they just won’t admit whatever the truth is out loud. Rosie definitely has had to learn some hard truths and lessons about the consequences of her style of confronting others about issues she feels strongly about. Sometimes a silk glove is called for but she pulls out the heavy artillery nonetheless. Let’s hope that she’s found more of a balance in her spirit. This new show of hers is supposed to be a variety show in the spirit of Carol Burnett’s among others. Hopefully she’ll be smart and generous enough to make us laugh and smile without any incidents of moralistic rebuke. I’ll be tuning in with high hopes for her.
