Madoff Victims Selling Memorabilia on eBay

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Bernard Madoff Memorabilia for sale/eBay

Would you strut around Palm Beach with a tote bag that reads "Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC"?

We wouldn’t, but if you have the chutzpa, you can purchase such memorabilia on eBay.

Apparently, Madoff put his firm’s name on items including T-shirts, fleece vests, beach towels, tote bags and backpacks. Now, several dozen of those keepsakes are on sale on eBay, and perhaps a few losers will make money (which will just be pennies compared to the lump sum Madoff allegedly made off with in his alleged $50 billion Ponzi scheme). Some of the items for sale include:

A photocopy of the financial statement Madoff put out for a client, postmarked December 3, a week before his December 11 arrest: $99

Madoff Investment Securities Beach Tote: $98.75

A fleece vest with a Madoff Securities logo:$104.50

The seller of the fleece, lilden2001, who also is selling a number of other Madoff goodies, writes that she got the vest through a friend. "My friend worked for the biggest crook on Wall street — Bernie Madoff! … This Black LL Bean Vest was given to Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC employees as a holiday gift from a member of the Madoff family."

Most of the items are being auctioned off for about $50. And many sellers are spouting a similar sales pitch: "Own a piece of history!” Click here for a complete list of the items for sale.

Good question the same people that buy paintings from serial killers in jail will buy this stuff, amazing. But to another point I am tired of hearing the poor me stories from his victims not one of them spoke up when he was paying off 10-20% a year no everyone just kept their mouths shut, I can hear them now saying ” I don’t care how Bernie makes me money as long as it keeps coming” and off they went to the bank. So please spare me the tears.

Hi Elizabeth. Sorry for my late response, but I’m not sure your statements are exactly fair. I do agree that no one was asking much of anything or questioning America’s apparent prosperity in the midst of two wars and rising unemployment and foreclosure. Our highest leaders re-assured us that everything was fine, while a lot of financial gurus were doing “unbelievable” things in the past few years, and “magically” reaping unsubstantiated rewards in the process. But I’d say, anybody who’s had their trust betrayed is entitled to a few tears, no matter how much or how little money is involved. It does burn me up, though, to think the culprits — and I’m sure Madoff is just one of many — are still wallowing in their millions while the legal process fiddles around. Justice is neither swift nor sure in our present situation. That’s the shame.

The seller has my good luck wishes. I for one as a seller and buyer on eBay would not touch anything that man has been involved in. Glorifying a crook? What for?

Why would anyone but a ghoul want this crap?

Apparently, Bernie has not been complying with the wishes of the constabulary, and just may find himself incarcerated. What is going on with his mailing out millions of dollars worth of jewelry from his home? And, I think he has been breaking bail rules?

Who knows—who’s he trying to buy?

Is this some new sort of reverse status symbol? How weird, but anything is sold on eBay. Who’d buy it though?

Madoff memorabilia? Who would want to remember a man who literally took the warm clothing from a needy child’s body, the income and security from 70+ retired couples or the financial hopes of thousands? This is ghoulish humor …more in line with a Goth fire sale.

Mad(e)off is the scum of the earth. He really screwed over a lot of people. BUT, that having been said, I DON’T believe the government should pay one cent to anyone who was defrauded. That is what the court system is for and we have fraud laws in place for that. And to see these people asking the government for help and members of congress agreeing to pursue that avenue for these people is absolutely immoral on both sides.
