Madonna Turns 50: Welcome to Our World, Girlfriend

By The Staff at wowOwow

Madonna is turning 50 this weekend. And the world’s perception of 50 will never be the same.

About time.

It’s not only a big birthday for her, but it’s a landmark for the culture at large when a woman so singularly identified with youth, beauty, talent and cutting-edge style — and with such a worldwide following — reaches this life stage in such a gloriously timeless, stunningly vital and perfectly life-affirming package.

Fifty never looked so good. And so, we’re celebrating this fabulous wowOwow woman’s birthday with a collection of features.

And no, Madonna is probably not spending this birthday weekend applying for AARP membership … but who knows? She’s the right age …

Dear Madonna: Stop trying to look 30 and embrace 50. I worry you’re going to exercise and resculpt your face so far, you’ll end up as Joan Rivers. Lovingly, Lorraine

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (who has the richest contract in baseball) dumped his wife for the Material Girl, as you know. I never cared for her music.

Yes - I hope she doesn’t pull a Cher and re-do her whole body and face so she looks like something in the wax museum - if she’s smart, she could use this new decade to show us how to age well as so many other 50 something celebrities are doing!

My Two Cents
I wish WOW would celebrate women that have made contributions that have improved the lives of women living today ! Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton made it possible for women to vote, that seems more noteworthy to me than Modonna turning 50 !

My Two Cents Wow does celebrate women who make wonderful contributions to our lives…………who is to say Madonna doesn’t contribute wonderful things to some peoples lives. Entertainers contribute a lot to peoples lives………..a little fun……….a little joy………..a lot of satisfaction. I’ve never owned a Madonna CD…I’ve seen her in movies………….I’ve seen her on Television.. I’m 76 years old and I still enjoy seeing her perform. Read the threads you’re interested in and skip the ones you don’t like…………… Wow, in my opinion gives us a good variety of things to comment on. I enjoy the Serious……the interesting………..the funny………and the trivial It’s called TO EACH HIS OWN.

Pat yourself on the back - you have worked hard and done very well. Be thankful for your talent, intelligence, and good health. Appreciate the love and support from your family and friends. Reflect and make sure you are living true to your core values and priorities. Life is short - Make the most of it!!!

The good thing about being a woman today is that you can write your own narrative. On the brink of age 50, my four children were college graduates happily exploring the future, my own career, once enjoyable, had lost its zip, and my own long marriage was painfully out of steam. I considered the situation, talked things over with those I loved, took a deep breath, said a prayer and made changes. A not-too-difficult divorce followed, and grad-school for a new career. I wasn’t really looking, but a wonderful guy then appeared, who turned out to be the love of my mature life. I can say with confidence that a woman’s 50’s can be fulfilling, challenging and joyfull. It is a time for self-confidence, for knowing what really matters and for having the courage to do what one’s heart and head know is right.. I hoe for Madonna, they’ll be the best years of her life.

Please, be yourself! You are such an inspiration for all of us! Do not listen to all those matronly women with no energy and no zest for life! We love you! Be there for us - so we have a role model ( even those of us who do not sing or dance)/ You made me start yoga. You made me put away that cake. Thank you , Madona!

Happy B-Day! From one happy 54 year old who is happy and in love. I wish the same for you Ms. Madonna! Please don’t go the extreme surgery route just because you get a few lines and don’t look the same as you did when you were 18!

Hey, Madge. Happy Birthday! I turned 50 almost a year ago and devoted a whole radio show to it. In your honor, I reposted it this week at http://www.satellitesisters.com/audio.html. Everyone who called in - my parents, old friends, even old bosses - definitely got into the spirit of ‘onward and upward”. But don’t get carried away with the Fifty Is The New Thirty stuff. Or even The New Forty. Fifty Is Fine All By Itself. Fifty-one? Well, I’ll see next month!

I didn’t like turning 40 at all, but I really celebrated 50. Wonder why. Something happened to my attitude about needing to be/stay young in my 4th decade. I wish I could tell you what it was. The thing is to stay healthy, embrace change in the world, and keep yourself reasonably fit. When you stop fighting it, your body and soul reward you with grace and a new kind of beauty.
