Margo Howard Asks: Can You See The Smoke Coming Out of My Ears?

Editor’s Note: A longtime journalist, Margo Howard went into the family business (her mother was the fabled Ann Landers) in the 1990s as Dear Prudence. Her broad experience and understanding of human nature provide answers for the troubled — and entertainment for everyone else. Click here to read her column on Yahoo!

I know, I know, everybody and their dog is weighing in on Sarah Palin, but I must add to the noise. I am channeling Joan Rivers here, but can we talk? I am going to come right out and say it … and I will say it in English. I think the deal with the kid who is knocked-up is tacky. I have no problem with a 17-year-old getting tripped up with her boyfriend of a year. My problem is with a mother who not only allows it to be breezed around the globe, but who then gets very in-your-face about it, as in, “I dare you to make something of it.”

The conservative fundamentalists who would have raised cane if Chelsea Clinton had gotten herself in a family way at 17 have found a way to pretzel this around so that the family is heroic for not choosing an abortion. And … as if this weren’t enough, the father-to-be, or “sex on skates” as one publication called him, is flown to St. Paul where he is met at the airport by John McCain!

Are these people crazy? It all looks like a reward for, well, never mind. Then, the kid winds up on stage with Palin’s family and he is chewing gum. And … in place of a ring on his ring finger is the tattoo “Bristol.” If you can think of anything more tasteless, do drop me a line. I have about had it with “family values.”

I just think you should be ashamed of yourself, Bonnie…for being so dumb to support these dreadful people who’ve done so much damage to the world. If you support it, you are part of it. How can you be so tacky?

Suzanne - you may call me dumb, and a lot of the other things you have said but please do not call me “tacky”.

Yeah! Tacky—now you have crossed the line….. You are on your game today, Bonnie!

Bonnie….tacky is as tacky does…this is what you support: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfR4vCqofjQ An completed ignorant mess. Haven’t we suffered enough of that for 8 years? What kind of total unalterable disaster does this country need to become before you Republicans wake up? The stupidity of these choices wreck all of our lives—not just those of the people who make them. So your life must be so much better off than 8 years ago that you want 8 years—but even worse? This choice of McCains proves what he is…and all this woman needs to do is open her mouth. Tacky is putting it mildly and that’s what you support. That video without handlers fixing her up a bit is what she is—-completely dreadful.

You should be ashamed for coming down on someone YOU don’t even know.

And just because Margo Howard is Ann Landers daughter, so what. Maybe she needs to keep to advice column business.

There are seven alerts in my email box. I cannot answer them. I am sorry. But I am leaving this conversation. Maybe on Monday I will rejoin it.

Turn off the email alert function. You don’t have to answer everything. Besides it is HOT today and you are probably more crabby than usual as a result.

Elizabeth - I try to respond to the ‘Alerts”. It was just a notice to folks to know that I was signing off. Suzanne once chastised me for not answering to replies to my comments. I had to agree with her. However, since I am one of maybe two or three Republicans who post here, I get a lot of responses and I cannot answer all of them. So I was just being polite.

Bonnie: “Suzanne once chastised me for not answering to replies to my comments.” I know you don’t need me telling you but, you can’t dance to their tunes. This is a rude and insidious bunch. As for being polite, don’t even go there. They don’t understand the word. An Obama supporter sees politeness as a weakness and they pounce on it. I think the WoW investors have created a monster. No need to reply.

You are a sweetheart to reply. It bothered me if you thought I was “scolding” you and that you did not understand why I said what I did. Your example of the Jesus thing is a good example of being sensitive to those on a particular site. Again–-diverse opinions are great; crude epithets directed at the person are not. I, too, have grown very fond of Star, Marjorie, Pi, Lady Gator and some others that give it to us Democrats in their witty, stinging ways and it’s good fun. Thank you, Maizie–––––I have grown very fond of you, too. Marjorie: The above is a copy and paste from another thread but wanted you to know my feelings. I think you Republicans or independents need to come back and discuss issues, not just dismiss many as rude or insidious. You don’t agree so tell us why––counter-act with facts. I am an Obama supporter and when I see politeness I most certainly do not see it as a weakness and pouncing I only do when some wise guy spews vicious nonsense. If the wows have created a “monster” it’s one that can move mountains.

Bonnie, “Suzanne once chastised me for not answering to replies to my comments” Not THIS Suzanne—-never, ever. I could care less who responds to what.
