Marlo Thomas Is Over the Edge

Marlo Thomas
My childhood pal, Camille. Like Thelma and Louise, Camille and I have been friends for a long time. We met when we were 11. We make each other laugh; we always know what each other is thinking; we fight like sisters and make up just as quickly; we share the same sense of what’s right and fair; and, on more than one occasion, we’ve sailed off a cliff together (albeit figuratively) — holding hands and howling all the way!

I’m glad you’ve had a lifelong friend like Camille, Marlo-Yarlo. Such friends are priceless, because you know they are true friends through thick and thin, and you share long memories that are special. I’m pontificating here, but I imagine when a person is famous like you are, it is very hard to trust all the people who come along wanting to be “friends”. Are they after your money? Do they just hang with you because they want to be seen with you, or your even-more-famous friends/husband? I believe in true loyalty, and have found in my 46 years that many people you think are close friends won’t be there for you in a pinch. Similarly, people who you perhaps had a falling out with or think no longer care, may come through for you when the chips are down. One such person for me was my only full sister (I have 3 half-sisters), Kim. She rarely ever phones, never, ever comes over to my house. But when I was in the hospital in June following cardiac arrest, she was the one who made all the phone calls, took care of everything, etcetera. I was blown away by it, and we’ve renewed a bond that long ago had been broken by her seeming indifference. God Bless you, Marlo. I’ll be Googling you lots this fall, to see what your TV schedule is going into the holiday season. Cheers, James
