McCain Campaign Manager Exonerates Palin In Clothing Debacle

Sarah Palin’s getting some help from John McCain’s former campaign manager, Rick Davis.
Palin, you know, came under serious fire for reportedly spending $150,000 on clothing for her and her family ahead of the Republican National Convention. Allegations of the Alaska Governor’s alleged "diva" behavior did nothing to endear her to voters, and some speculated that it helped hurt her and McCain’s odds at the White House.
We’ve already reported this week that Palin wasn’t responsible for the hefty bills, but Davis’ remarks may be the most powerful Palin defense to date. In an interview with the National Review that will be published next week, Davis insists that Palin had nothing to do with the sartorial scandal. It all began, he says, because Palin and her family had very little time between her selection as the Republican vice-presidential candidate and the convention itself:
“We flew her out from Alaska to Arizona to Ohio to introduce her to the world and take control of her life. She didn’t think ‘dress for the convention’, because it might have just been a nice day trip to Arizona if she didn’t click with John.
…We got her a gal from New York and we thought, ‘Let’s get some clothes for her and the family.’ It was a failure of management not to get better control and track of that. The right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing, what it was worth or where it was going. No one knew how much that stuff was worth. It was more our responsibility than hers.”
Perhaps now Governor Palin can move past this brouhaha and get back into her reclaim her "hockey mom" persona. Unless she likes being a fashion plate, of course.
