Meghan McCain Remains Mum on Palin

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Meghan McCain has no qualms discussing her father John’s presidential campaign, but she’s not feeling very chatty when it comes to his controversial running mate, Sarah Palin.

Twenty-four-year-old McCain, who turned to blogging during the White House race, recently sat down for an interview with Monday Morning Clacker to ruminate on the presidential campaign, and highlighted some of her proudest moments. "I think I am most proud of the fact that I was able to get people involved in the political process that might not have been involved before; young people who were attracted to a political blog that doesn’t fit the traditional DC mold. I’m proud that young women approach me, tell me that my blog helped make the election accessible to them." Though her father didn’t win the presidency, Ms. McCain still insists she wouldn’t change a thing. "It was truly an invaluable experience and I sit here today as an incredibly proud daughter and member of the Republican Party.” That’s all well and good, but it’s clear McCain’s not loving all of her party sisters, like the aforementioned Sarah Palin.

When asked to share her thoughts on the one-time vice-presidential hopeful, Meghan offered a curt "no comment": "Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won’t comment on publicly." Well, that just means we’ll have to imagine what she thinks — and we imagine it’s not very flattering!

Meghan on Palin in her blog… “Governor Sarah Palin” POSTED BY MEGHAN AND PHOTOS BY HEATHER Yesterday was incredible. Again I got to witness history in the making, from a front row seat. Starting out the day with Dad’s choice of Governor Sarah Palin as his nominee for Vice President is a moment on stage I will never forget. She and her family are so down to earth and so much fun. I could not be any luckier to have these wonderful people join us on the road. I had the pleasure of spending the day with kids Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Not only do we have a new Vice Presidential nominee, but I have three new awesome girls to share the road with. I am looking forward to spending more time with them hanging out on the Straight Talk Express. It feels a bit like we’re welcoming a few new blogettes to the site and my life. I couldn’t be happier, more pleased or excited. This has truly been one of the best days on the trail so far. ” http://www.mccainblogette.com/postings/083008_0928.shtml

Meghan McCain’s Defense of Bristol Palin September 02, 2008 11:54 AM ABC News’ Bret Hovell reports: Meghan McCain, the daughter of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, and purveyor of McCainBlogette.com, a blog about her travels on the campaign trail, has a post this morning about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy. Meghan McCain describes a kinship with other political offspring and talks about the question that “single-handedly changed my life” — when her father was asked during his 2000 campaign what his reaction would be if Meghan, then 14, got pregnant. Her post, titled “Daughters,” is below in full. Meghan wrote: “The first political convention I ever attended was when my mom was pregnant with me in 1984 and the Republican Party nominated Ronald Reagan for a second term as president. I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. “If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter’s question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. “It’s a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters, such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can’t fully understand it unless you have lived it. So, I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.”

S.J. Thank you for the post. There are not many here who would give a Palin the benefit of the doubt, but it’s nice to hear something positive for a change.

Sarah toward the end of the campaign was not shall we say loyal to McCain. McCain although not critical of Palin has not been supportive of her. Joe the plumber complained about McCain. S.J doesn’t miss a chance to be critical of our new president but Sarah Palin can do no wrong. Even though I support Obama I have been critical at times. But S.J. and others accept everthing about Sarah as being a good thing.

I could swear that Obama and all his family walk on water …..If McCain wants to blame anyone he would have to look in the mirror or blame is wife since she is the one who encourged him to select her. Like it or not Palin helped him with the Republican base..had he selected MY FIRST choice Romney ( who would have been a better President and we could sure use his expertice today) he might have done better. I maintain the Rep party wanted to save Romney for a year when they had a snowballs chance to win due to the anti Bush sentiment…2012. I still maintain Palin has been treated unfairly and more so disturbing that is is mostly by other women. But it has exposed many a lib for the intolerant , sexist, clasist, derranged that they are. When asked if he supported Palin in 2012 it would have been more appropriate to say….I had not heard announce she was running as yet. She ahs ONLY said she would not rule it out. More than Obama by the way he indicated over two years ago that he was not only to change his mind. ( But then we have now seen he does that quite often) So far the ONLY people who say she is running is fearful Dems/Libs.

I hope Sarah Palin runs in 2012 because it would destroy the Republican party as it is today. She is the epitome of the faux conservative “religous right” group that gained control of the Republican party after the Goldwater fiasco. As a caricature of a caricature of the religous right, she is a person whom the reasonable Republicans can’t ignore, especially after eight years of watching the country be run into the ground by a caricature. They’ll have to split, hopefully recreating a socially conservative and fiscially conservative political party to balance things out. Three decades of choosing between a party that is liberal both socially and fiscially, and one that is socially conservative but fiscially liberal has caused our economy to tank. Sarah Palin will cause balance to be restored as people realize that we simply don’t want to be represented by someone that stupid and that ignorant. Sarah Palin was not treated unfairly in the 2008 election. She was treated just as any candidate with her intelligence and ignorance should be treated. The fact that people try to say that she should be treated better because she is a woman simply keeps the rest of us women down, especially given that she was chosen because of her gender.

I agree with those who do not see the “no comment” as a negative reference to Sarah Palin. Sen. McCain created a bit of a kerfuffle recently (unintentionally in my view) when he refused to say he would endorse Palin in 2012. His answer was intended to be a thoughtful one suggesting that the world that we face in 2012 and the candidates that we have then should be considered before an endorsement is made. That was not a dig at Palin, simply a reasoned deferral. He might have worded it better, but it wasn’t a dig — much as many would hope that it was. So I think Meghan understands that there is no way to talk about Palin in this environment without somebody twisting it into something she didn’t intend. “No comment” was right and gave the least (but unfortunately as can be seen in the story and comments, still some) opportunity to spin it in an unflattering manner against Palin. No reasonably sentient human being thinks that McCain would have won if he had picked anyone other than Sarah Palin. So I don’t think that either Meghan or her Dad have any animus that they are trying to signal to the public.
