Meghan McCain Remains Mum on Palin

Meghan McCain has no qualms discussing her father John’s presidential campaign, but she’s not feeling very chatty when it comes to his controversial running mate, Sarah Palin.

Twenty-four-year-old McCain, who turned to blogging during the White House race, recently sat down for an interview with Monday Morning Clacker to ruminate on the presidential campaign, and highlighted some of her proudest moments. "I think I am most proud of the fact that I was able to get people involved in the political process that might not have been involved before; young people who were attracted to a political blog that doesn’t fit the traditional DC mold. I’m proud that young women approach me, tell me that my blog helped make the election accessible to them." Though her father didn’t win the presidency, Ms. McCain still insists she wouldn’t change a thing. "It was truly an invaluable experience and I sit here today as an incredibly proud daughter and member of the Republican Party.” That’s all well and good, but it’s clear McCain’s not loving all of her party sisters, like the aforementioned Sarah Palin.

When asked to share her thoughts on the one-time vice-presidential hopeful, Meghan offered a curt "no comment": "Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won’t comment on publicly." Well, that just means we’ll have to imagine what she thinks — and we imagine it’s not very flattering!

Ron: No reasonably sentient human being thinks that McCain would have won if he had picked anyone other than Sarah Palin. I agree wholeheartedly. Sarah Palin brightened that contest like no other. There were times she drew more crowds than Obama, himself. Therein lies the problem, therein is the reason she is so pummeled on this site.

Meghan is probably just going along with her father’s present policy of not commenting on Sarah Palin, probably because he got misinterpreted last time he did. So if Meghan isn’t commenting on Palin, no one should take that as an indication of her feelings one way or the other. Why not report on what she did talk about? I’m sure she had lots of interesting things to say.

Thank you dear daughter of McCain - even you can see that Palin spoke one way and lived another. How can a conservative “mother” allow her daughter to not have the information necessary to prevent pregnancy outside of marriage? Because she is so self-absorbed she probably never had a girl talk with her daughter. If Palin’s daughter had been mine I would have marched her off and had her evaluated for self-destructive actions. Then I would have had her sign off as “mother” and produce the child for adoption. Really! Starting life off “without” true parents is not the sort of example we want to have for our children to see. UGH

Diane: …conservative “mother” allow her daughter to not have the information necessary to prevent pregnancy outside of marriage? Oh please. If Bristol Palin didn’t know about the birds and the bees by the age of 10, I’d be totally amazed. What kid doesn’t know about condoms… they’re sold in grocery stores. Unless young girls have changed since I was one, boys and everything about them is the topic of conversation every day. And my mother must have been self-absorbed, too, because she never had a girl talk with me. Since I was quite interested in sex in my teens, I learned everything without her. Why do you need to trash the Palin family so? Pregnancy is not self-destruction action. As for the rest of your Victorian ideas, I would say Bristol Palin is very, very, VERY fortunate to have the parents she has.

I agree, this was mortifing for the parents, they did the right thing in not trying to hide the situation. Just think of all the kids out there today who are raised with no morals, because of the parents and then we have to pay to take care of them, including baby sitters in high school. There is something in every family, it will be very interesting to see what happens in the next four years with planned parenthood, abortion etc.

Sounds like she lives by the saying, “If you can’t say anything nice, say nothing.” Good advice. I would imagine that she has lots of info that would be great to hear but she has taken the higher road. Sarah, however, can’t shut up! She has blamed everyone but herself for her implosion campaigning. She needs to learn to take responsibility for her own mistakes. Such a shame.

I think she does not think too highly of Sarah and does not want to embarrass her Dad by speaking out. It just seems like her silence speaks volumes to me.

My mother always taught me that if you couldn’t say anything nice, say nothing. It’s good to see Miss McCain is following that golden rule. I am no way a Palin fan; I don’t think she’s stupid, just uninformed. And certainly not the right individual to run this county. Miss McCain good for you! Your parents obviously taught you manners.

The Republicans were wrong in choosing McCain as their candidate, that is all I will say, we could have won!!
