Meghan McCain Still Talking, But Not About Palin (Video)

Meghan McCain’s been very vocal in recent weeks. Well, sort of. In addition to her recent interview with her mother, McCain made headlines last week when, in an interview, she refused to comment on her father John’s running mate, Sarah Palin. Apparently hoping that the 22-year-old had warmed up to the idea, CNN’s John Roberts this morning tried to pry some more information out of her. Unfortunately, McCain wasn’t biting. Asked if she had changed her mind on the topic, McCain offered this terse reply:

You know, I think just at this stage like I said, President Obama just got elected. There’s a whole new future out there for this country. I don’t really think I would like to look back on what happened during the election. All of these things that are coming out. I prefer just to move forward and look forward, and I don’t really have any comments on anything …

I think she is a fine woman. I got to know her pretty well during the campaign. She also has a beautiful family. I just would prefer not to comment on anything that she’s saying.

Roberts and McCain also discussed the aforementioned conversation between her and her mother, Cindy. During that interview, you’ll recall, Mrs. McCain took aim at The New York Times and other media outlets that had been critical of her during the campaign. One of the remarks concerned whether Mrs. McCain qualifies as a "Stepford Wife." Obviously, Meghan McCain disagrees and rushed to her mother’s defense: "She is a lot like me which is what I don’t think people normally get. And she is very fun loving. She’s got a really, you know, a fun sense of humor and it just never came across. And I was so sad that people are really surprised when they see that side of her."

Here’s the video of the conversation between Roberts and McCain:

She ‘s a smart woman and is keeping her mouth shut which quite a few others in the McCain campaign should be doing too.

Frank, It also speaks to her respect for her father. He is still working in the Senate and is still influential with many Repubs. She cannot do anything to upset that apple cart.

Yup that is it exactly. Though I have no doubt what she could say would be ummm devastating?

I respect Meghan McCain’s decision to stay quiet when it comes to Sarah Palin and what she is saying. She’s a smart young lady.

I think John McCain is going to be one of Obama’s biggest Republican allies in the Senate during the next few years. It will be a surprise to me if he is not.

I agree DeB, he seems eager to step up and do his part.

The election, and wanting it too much, really brought out the worst in McCain and I have to think he has come back to his senses and wants to do a great job moving forward and being part of the solution. If he does, he’ll be a thorn in the sides of any obstructionist Republicans.

I agree—it’s already pointed that way

This whole “issue” seems to me like that old saying….. If you cant say something good, dont say anything at all. Imagine that!

This may be an apocryphal tale, but Alice Roosevelt Longworth, reportedly, had a needlepoint pillow on her couch that was lovingly wrought with the phrase..”If you can’t say anything nice about somebody, sit right here next to me”…….That was when she was a Washington grande dame………Eighty years old or some such…….

DeB, you’re dead on. I agree. I think Meghan is great. She is doing the right thing by not commenting on Sarah Palin. We can only imagine what she must be thinking given all the negative comments made by Palin in regard to her father.

I think this is telling when the republican presidential candidate’s daughter will not make comments about a woman who was her father’s running mate’ and therefore should be an ally even in loss. Also, when Meghan said her mother’s true personality never came across, I can’t help but ask “Why not?” What or who held her back?
