Michelle O. Taking No Coiffure Chances at Inauguration

Barack Obama may be getting sworn in at the Inauguration, but all eyes will be on Michelle Obama’s style. That’s why she’s not taking any chances and has asked her trusted stylist of 18 years to fly in and ensure she looks fabulous!

Michael "Rahni" Flowers, of Van Cleef Hair Studio on Chicago’s Gold Coast, will be arriving on Sunday with his blow-dryers and flatirons and will reportedly handle Mrs. Obama’s hair and makeup for her many public appearances, including the swearing-in ceremony, parade and Inaugural balls. The future First Lady also entrusted Flowers with her look for Election Night. While the dress wasn’t the biggest hit, her hair and makeup were dazzling.

Obama, who sometimes wears her dark shoulder-length hair flipped at the ends, often finds herself compared to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, whom many consider the most stylish First Lady in history. Obama’s youthful look is in stark contrast to some past First Ladies, including Laura Bush, Lady Bird Johnson and Betty Ford, whose respective images reflected a more matronly look. Michelle Obama, on the other hand, maintains a more youthful appearance.

Tell us: Which First Lady does Michelle Obama remind you of?

All first ladies have their own hair stylists. Why should she be any different? I’m not sure there’s an issue here. She needs to look the part of a first lady and whatever that requires I say “Go for it, Michelle!”

I’m sure Michelle will look fabulous! And the best part about it is Michelle has her own money and will paying for her stylist out of her own pocket without any help from the DNC or the government. How refreshing. As for the first lady she reminds me of? It would have to be Jackie O. As much as my fellow bloggers have taken swipes at the quality and style of her clothing right down (or up as it were) to her eyebrows, I personally think she has a very classic style and appearance that many women will want to mimic, just as many did with Jackie.

Sorry, Belinda, she can, in no way, be compared to Jackie O. I do, however, believe, she has her own style which cannot be compared to any other first lady. She is a lovely lady but not a Jackie O type.

You’d better tell Ann Coulter, she thinks Michelle is “copying” Jackie O.

I am excited beyond my wildest dreams……………i know I will be smiling all day during our Inaugeration party with friends and family. Wish Inaugeration Day was a holiday from work where we could all dance in the streets and bring in the new administration…………have a countrywide party !…………..I know we are in trouble, but oh I have such ‘hope that springs eternal’

Jim, you seem to be hung up on the gay issue. I wonder why?

PE Obama made it perfectly clear he wants to be inclusive of all people, he is just doing what he said he would do. That has been the trouble in this country nobody brought us together and it’s going to change under PE Obama. Not all of us agree with each other but that doesn’t mean we can’t come together and talk, that is the right thing to do.

Jim, it seems “balanced” don’t you think?

I love that she is not constricted by high fashion, but mixes it easily with more accessible, down to earth choices. Once in awhile she takes a chance that doesn’t come off perfectly, so what? She’s a breath of fresh air and I love her.

Michelle Obama is a very classy lady and she will look lovely on the day I’m sure. They come across as a really lovely family and I wish them nothing but the very best for the future and I hope they enjoy the day. It will be a life changing experience for them all and a chance of hope for the rest of us.
