Comeback Kid Mickey Rourke Accepts 'Best Actor,' Thanks 'Dogs' (Video)

There were plenty of accolades to go around at last night’s 66th Annual Golden Globes — and a few surprises, including comeback kid Mickey Rourke’s "best actor" win for his role in "The Wrestler." The perenial bad boy stumbled onstage to thank his "dogs" during his acceptance speech — but perhaps nobody deserves more thanks than the actor himself.

Rourke, 56, was once compared to Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro and Jame Dean, until his rebellious lifestyle took its toll on the charmer. So it was especially poignant last night to see Rourke — who seemed to have no career a mere three years ago — beat out Leonardo DiCaprio for "Revolutionary Road," Frank Langella for "Frost/Nixon," Sean Penn for "Milk" and Brad Pitt for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

In "The Wrestler," Rourke portrays Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a professional wrestler past his prime, holding on to the remains of a once-famous career. And the similarities to his life obviously aren’t lost on Rourke.

"This has been a very long road back for me," Rourke said. "Several years ago I was almost out of this business." Rourke went on to thank the film’s producers, cast, and director Darren Aronofsky, who "brought the best out of me." He also complimented his agent: "I wanna thank David Unger for having the balls" to believe in him. And, remember, he also thanked "all his dogs" for being there for him when times were tough. And we do, too!

I know what you mean, but I think that he spent some time as a boxer after the drug issues and the movie roles dried up, so there is the reason his face looks different. He’s had a very hard life, after showing such promise early on. Remember him in Diner ? Excellent ! Hollywood loves a redemption story, like Robert Downey Jr., and Mickey Rourke certainly deserves the attention, but i was disappointed that Frank langella did not get the award for the amazing performance as Nixon, but the “buzz” was on Rourke’s side

EKA, thank you for reminding me about Diner, I had totally forgotten about it. I’d love to see it again I wonder if Blockbuster has it to rent out.
