'Mr. Clean' Actor House Peters Jr. Dies at 92

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Mr. Clean, the man who made cleaning a macho thing — at a time when women did most of the household chores — died Wednesday at the age of 92.

House Peters Jr. played the highly recognizable Mr. Clean in a series of commercials for Procter & Gamble cleaning products from the 1950s to ’60s. He’ll be widely remembered as the bald man with the bulging arms, big smile, bushy eyebrows, earring and deep voice — who attacked filth and grease head on. Peters’s son, Jon Peters, told the Associated Press that his father died of pneumonia at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital, in Los Angeles.

The Mr. Clean actor was born January 12, 1916, to silent-screen star House Peters Sr. and actress Mae King Peters. Peters Jr. served in the U.S. Army Air Corps’ Air Sea Rescue section as a small-boat operator during World War II. During his tour in the Philippines, he met his wife, Lucy Pickett, according to IMDB.com. Peters played supporting-actor roles in numerous small-screen shows, including "Lassie," "Perry Mason" and "The Twilight Zone." In 2000, he was awarded the Golden Boot Award for his lifetime contribution to Western genres.

He retired in his 50s, and he and Pickett drove across the country to fish and shop at flea markets. He is survived by his wife, three children and four grandchildren.

Seeing that headline reminded me of when my cousin heard that Walt Disney had died and came running in and said “Mickey Mouse died”. Mr. Clean seemed the same to me, more than real life.

i mean WOW—-Mr. Clean made it to 92! perhaps someone may know his diet, exercise regimen, any data on such rare longevity for a man? i’m a ‘panicy-guy’ ala Chris on the Letterman show, years ago—-‘late middle-age’, and the fact so many of my old alumni have ‘passed’ has me spooked-by-time—-and damn—-i just quit shaving my head!

This sure brings back a ton of memories. I grew up seeing all these old school commercials. My favorite radio song I remember, was the “Like a good neighbor” song of State farm insurance.
