No 'Rock' For Meryl As Sarandon Hits 'ER'

We have some good news and some bad news. We’ll start with the latter. There were rumors this week that, while at the SAG awards, Alec Baldwin had asked Meryl Streep to guest star on his hit NBC show, "30 Rock." While some sources claimed Streep agreed straightaway, TV Guide now says that Streep will not be appearing. That may be disappointing, but hopefully the next news will lift your spirits.

Susan Sarandon was spotted filming scenes last week for an episode of "ER" — and she wasn’t alone. The Oscar winner reportedly acted alongside George Clooney, a former cast member who agreed to appear in one episode for the long-running drama’s final season. We’re sure it will be brilliant!

None of them are aging well. Appeal’s gone. There’s not even a hint left of the enchanting bequiling beauty Streep had been when Sophie was in theatres.. Maybe she never was bequiling only the part she played was. To my memory there’s only one or two roles she’s played since that I’ve not intensely disliked her portrayal. They were both with Dinero. She does a sentimental tribute to Bette Davis that’s intermittently played on TMC. In it she recalls her teenage years coming home after school to watch Bette Davis in an old movie on TV.and claims with unwholesome laugh, “Watching Bette Davis I learned how to scare the hell out of a man,” Every time I hear that I ask myself what she finds funny? She was appealing, feminine playing against Dinero. Guess he wouldn’t have her any other way. Seeing her in other movies, even with Redford and Eastwood, that signature role she plays of internal contflict with control V vulnerabilty wore thin, overdone, tedious. Feeling came to me that if she danced with either man their feet would collide with her competing to lead. She seems always to wear that snippy annoyed expression as if there’s something foul in the air surrounding her or an invisible nemisis is crowding her space. When she does manage a smile, you’d prefer she hadn’t. It seems false. I make it a point to avoid her movies and her losing out on a role seems like a good idea. Sarandon’s put herself out there too politically, too overexposed, looking haggard and like Streep, too hardened and hell bent on being herself, her own brand. Which isn’t terribly interesting. Cluny looks old, tired, beyond Viagra.
