NOW to NY Gov: Select Woman for Hillary's Senate Seat

Hillary Clinton hasn’t officially been named Secretary of State, but the National Organization for Women’s New York branch isn’t taking any chances when it comes to her potentially vacant Senate seat.
The organization today released a statement "imploring" New York Gov. David Paterson to pick a woman for Clinton’s place.
Speaking at the Democratic National Convention this summer, Paterson expressed his empathy for the senator’s supporters after she missed out on the nomination.
Said Paterson at the time:
Can we understand the feelings of individuals who worked hard enough, who tried hard enough and who always seemed to come up with less than their talent and character would take them? Do we really and truly and sincerely recognize what it does to a nation that too often has systematically dismantled opportunity for half of the human race? If we truly understand that, then we’d understand why a lot of supporters wouldn’t say, "We’ll get ‘em tomorrow" or "Wait till next year." Because it’s been next year and next year and next year.
In their statement today, New York’s NOW urged Paterson to make good on his sympathies and select a woman as the state’s next senator. They were very clear, however, to specify the type of woman they’re looking for: "A woman who believes in women’s equality and important issues such as economic justice, ending racism, reproductive rights, passage of the equal-rights amendment, lesbian rights and ending violence against women." Now NOW just has to wait and see if Clinton actually leaves the Senate …

Hillary Clinton has officially been named Secretary of State…
Good for her. I think she’ll be excellent in the job.
Marjorie

An interesting perspective…

This article may be premature. I originally thought Hillary was a great pick for SoS, but the longer the Clinton drama goes on, the more I think that it would be for the best if Clinton stays where she is.
J. Mark, an interesting perspective indeed.
Caroline Kennedy would be a great senator for New York.
If she wants to start a political career, this would be the opportune moment, and she would be a synergistic choice.
Hope it’s Rep. Janice Schakowsky’ll replace Obama in Illinois and my own hope is Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown (Queens native but lived in Upstate since high school and highly educated and effective proven public servant). As to Delaware, if Sen. Biden ever resigns (tick-tock), we’ll see…
