Kennedy Rivals Insist Paterson's Picked Caroline

In this series, which started in July ‘08, wowOwow follows the political news swirling around Caroline Kennedy since her surprise endorsement of Barack Obama and high-profile placement on his VP selection committee. Now, Caroline is ready to launch a political career of her own. With the Caroline Kennedy Candidacy Watch, we’ll follow all the latest news.

Has New York Gov. David Paterson finally decided that Caroline Kennedy will be the next junior senator from New York? The New York Post thinks so. The Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper reports that several Kennedy rivals have told people they’re "certain" Paterson will pick her to fill Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. These people, who were also eyeing the seat, are convinced Paterson would "greatly embarrass" and "entirely humiliate" Kennedy, anger her prominent political family and even offend President-elect Barack Obama if he didn’t send her to Washington.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY, thinks Paterson’s simply looking out for himself, while another candidate told the Post he’s sure Kennedy will get the job because Attorney General Andrew Cuomo failed to line up the right replacement at the AG’s office. Cuomo’s actually the favorite in the race.

Paterson himself still says he hasn’t made up his mind. He said Monday that he wants someone who "has a plan" to deal with the economy and how to help suffering New Yorkers. He said he will make up his mind within the next few days. Some politicos say the endless delays seem to boost Kennedy’s odds.

Regardless of whether she gets the job or not, Kennedy is still seen by some as a sort of superhero — at least, enough to be the subject of a new comic book due to be released in June. She will be featured in the fourth "Female Force," a publication that showcases women pioneers in modern history. This year’s books will focus on Kennedy, Clinton, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Michelle Obama.

Still hasn’t made up his mind? Sound like Paterson is caught between a rock and a hard place.

Paterson like any good liberal is a coward by nature! He knows for a fact Caroline is not ready! But he is fearful of the Kennedys! And is scare of Obama and the idiots who voted for him! Am so happy I don’t live in New York! What a joke of a city! Paterson is so blind! No pun intended!

It was reported on a New York City news station that Maloney will be offered an important Congressional job. I think that sets the stage for Caroline. He was interviewed this morning and said he will announce it at the end of the week.

With reasons given to pick Kennedy about money I would think that Kennedy would find them insulting and drop out! …sadly she probably does not care. I’m beginning to think he will be forced to pick her and the result will be disaster

I wouldn’t credit the NY Post story too much. The Washington Post tried to verify by calling the other contenders and couldn’t. Remember that the same columnist said that it was sewn up for Rep. Steve Israel about a week ago. The only thing that has been leaked to the press thus far is that it will NOT be Rep. Carolyn Maloney. Her camp’s aggressive thrashing of Kennedy seems to have cost her in the estimation of the Governor, who is said to feel she “comes on too strong,” and is “too belligerent” for him to work with. Considering those statements by unnamed aides to the Governor, it the NY Post story just seems like sour grapes from Maloney. Maybe she is just trying to kamikaze Kennedy at this point.

You really have it out for Maloney. Not all her constituents feel the same. It’s been Cuomo who has been doing the thrashing. According to Marcia Kramer, Maloney was offered a new, more powerful Congressional position which makes me believe it’s the politics at work and not a snob against Maloney.

I noticed you only comment on anything Kennedy. So you are some sort of shill for the Kennedy camp. I think you can do your job w/o bashing another Dem. You wouldn’t happen to be connected to Bloomie would you???
