The Obama, McCain Housing Crisis: It's Not the One You Think (Videos)

For the past week, a viral battle has been brewing between Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his Republican rival John McCain over housing. No, not the housing crisis that you think — not the one we hear about every night, the one that has caused the greatest home price decline since the Great Depression. Not that one that might cause Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to collapse as early as this afternoon, according to CNBC’s Jim Cramer. No, what ignited this back-and-forth campaign has to do with the houses owned by the two candidates, as in how many they have and how they got them. This particularly silly series of video attacks began after John McCain admitted to Politico.com that he has no clue how many homes he owns — and Barack Obama immediately bounced on the blunder as proof that McCain is too out of touch with American voters.
Whether Obama owns one home and McCain owns seven or eight, both of them are worth a hefty fortune, according to CBS News and the New York Post. Watch these two YouTube videos below to witness some of the "housing war" campaign attacks.

McCain couldn’t remember how many homes he owns because of age related cognitive problems. His memory is so poor handlers have tried to stop him talking off the cuff which is the reason he ended up with the housing gaff.
Do we want a cognitively impaired president with a notoriously bad temper to be most the powerful man on earth?
He needs to pass a battery neuropsychiatric cognition and memory tests.
I agree with this statement. In addition main stream media is covering it up John McCains cognitive issue.Instead of main steam media discussing this issue, they rather discuss Paris Hilton etc. Although Paris Hilton decisions will take the US going into another war John McCains cognitive issues may. Main Stream Media and the Right Wing Republicans have been picking our president for far too long. And that’s why the US is in the mess it’s in today. It’s time for Americans to stand up and take our country back!
I can’t believe I’m agreeing with you, but I am. It’s been a very strange day so far…
One of now grown children remarked how much smarter I became since he was 16.
Katherine—-Had to laugh “It’s been a very strange day so far…”
Little did we know in our once Donna Reed Show worlds that life would morph into a daily Quentin Tarantino Floor Show. I just hang on and enjoy the view.
mark..that would be ‘gaffe’…sorry but we already have a president that fits your parameters…mccain doesnt NEED to pass any tests..he just needs to go to a galaxy far far away….
Beam him up Scottie.
Dr. Klein,
I was in an accident 7 years ago and had a head injury. Previous to it was so ultra organized, quick thinking, great memory, verbally acute that managed portfolios of highly complex projects all over the US, constant multi-tasking to the max. Loved it.
I know cognition problems when I see them. I’m fine in the sense I have work-arounds but could never do the work I used to do. When have cognitive problems have to structure work so that things aren’t coming constantly from multiple sources in real time.
A great book I read was by a Grosse Point ER internist who had nearly identical injury as me and she could never go back to being an ER doc or practicing medicine but she can teach internal medicine because then she is in control of the way workspace/work flow and elimates extraneous stimuli, etc.
“Do we want a cognitively impaired president with a notoriously bad temper to be most the powerful man on earth?”
Absolutely, no way.
And BTW the signature injury of US troops is blast head injuries. The brain is the most complex thing on earth and people can’t just ‘snap out of it.’ Dr. Osborn, the author of ‘Over My Head’ took 11 years to recover with all her contacts, assets, medical knowledge and also getting into an elite NYU neuro retraining program that she flunked once and had to retake. It’s been 7 years since my accident and cost me over $700K…..so am very familiar with neuro things.
Here’s her book by the way in case anyone knows someone now or in the future with a head injury. Was so grateful someone told me about it and like passing on. Invaluable. http://www.claudiaosborn.com/
“He needs to pass a battery neuropsychiatric cognition and memory tests.”
Well, he does but that’s never going to happen, so mute point.
Thanks for sharing your story.
I’m blogging on the issue of McCain’s cognitive problems is to raise awareness so that it becomes a campaign issue. Only then would there be a chance McCain got tested. One of the biggest problems for voters in presidential elections is getting “off agenda” issues on the discussion agenda. Otherwise both parties work off a Chinese menu of approved discussion points.
We paid a very price for the public unawareness of presidents with very serious medical and psychiatric problems. I recommend “In Sickness and in Health” by the neurologist and former UK Foreign Secretary David Owen. A brilliant clinician he breaks new ground in his analysis of the profound impact JFK’s and Woodrow Wilson’s health problems had on critical national policy.
Best of luck—Mark Klein
The correct title of Dr. Owen’s book is “In Sickness and in Power”.
MK—Thanks.
Winery- Did you ever check out Jill Bolte Taylor on Ted.com? Oh, and yay you for overcoming your head injury! Go Girl!
Josie,
Yes I did watch it when your 1st recommended and forgot to thank you. Sheesh, what a scary thing she went through and could articulate in such a fascinating manner and was able to make it through.
Thanks Josie…hope you have a great weekend…and hope we’re all please w/Obama’s pick tomorrow. The market is betting on Biden according to HuffPo.
Hey,
Biden is it. I woke from a semi deep/light sleep and came to the computer.
I hear Biden is the choice….. and now, I must travel to the na noo na noo land of nod.
Tomorrow is another day.
Dr. Mark- For Goodness Sake….We agree on something! Thank you.
