The Obama, McCain Housing Crisis: It's Not the One You Think (Videos)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

For the past week, a viral battle has been brewing between Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his Republican rival John McCain over housing. No, not the housing crisis that you think — not the one we hear about every night, the one that has caused the greatest home price decline since the Great Depression. Not that one that might cause Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to collapse as early as this afternoon, according to CNBC’s Jim Cramer. No, what ignited this back-and-forth campaign has to do with the houses owned by the two candidates, as in how many they have and how they got them. This particularly silly series of video attacks began after John McCain admitted to Politico.com that he has no clue how many homes he owns — and Barack Obama immediately bounced on the blunder as proof that McCain is too out of touch with American voters.

Whether Obama owns one home and McCain owns seven or eight, both of them are worth a hefty fortune, according to CBS News and the New York Post. Watch these two YouTube videos below to witness some of the "housing war" campaign attacks.

McCain has no business trying to paint Obama as an elitist.” By DeBúrca obj on 08/22/2008 12:17 pm Exactly the point I was going to bring up. How do they keep getting away with their hypocrisy?

Any doctor who purports a medical diagnosis without having examined a patient is showing a bias, as did Senator Bill Frist, who diagnosed Terry Schiavo as not having been in a permanent vegetative state after seeing a video tape. Having gone to medical school is no guarantee of judgement or the ability to think critically.

Kitty—You don’t need an M.D. or certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology to question the cognitive abilities of an elderly United States senator who didn’t know who the enemy was when visiting Iraq.

I am most interested in your observations of McCain as we proceed through the campaign process. I personally think he looks worn out, both physically and mentally. And, I still wonder about the residual effects of malnutrition and the trauma of being a POW for so long.

Have you prices homes in Chicago lately? The average condo today is over $600,000.

Most politicians have more money than most of us (founders perhaps excluded). I am a clinger myself—under $30K, but I know others have more money and I can still sleep at night. No one could run for president without money. Way of the world. McCain married his—many women try to do the same. Obama wrote two books about himself—many of us would like to do that!

Obama and his wife came from working class backgrounds got good educations and law degrees. Saying Obama wrote two books about himself is petty and very misleading.

His wife said they could not have paid their student loans without the royalties. She brought it up. They made $4.2 mill. Neither of these people is destitute—why should they be?

He wouldn’t have had anything to write about if it were not for their educational backgrounds, which helped them to get where they are, allowed him to pursue an early career in Community activism, which led him into the political realm. Just saying “he wrote 2 books about himself” dismisses all he has accomplished and the fact is, without those accomplishments he would not have had the books. I never said either was destitute nor did I say they should be. But there is a huge difference between how they got what they have, between their actual net worth, and the fact that McCain with his privileged background, heiress wife, numerous homes and $520 loafers has a lot of nerve attempting to paint Obama as an elitist.

No Way-No How -No McCain
De Burca—Brava….The Obamas were exceptional students, Barack was selected by his mostly white Harvard law class as the one ‘most likely to bevome president.’ He was editor of the Harvard Review—-a very prestigious slot, they earned everything and McCain, a D student, has had things handed to him. It makes me sick to hear him mischaracterizing Obama as an elistist to deflect the charge off where it belongs. The $100M man with a raft of expensive homes, who belittles the average Joe for having their home foreclosed as some kind of slacker that should manage money better and go get two jobs. That just makes me burn.

Yes! Elitist my eye…..He should know how many homes he has without flinching….and he probably does but wants to play it down…or let’s hope for goodness sake. If he really didn’t know….. and starts saying things like…”I don’t remember”, “Can’t recall”, then we must look at the Reagan years and ask…WHA?! The wealth doesn’t become him. He’s like a little boy trying to hide his toys in a bush….no pun intended. “The $100M man with a raft of expensive homes, who belittles the average Joe for having their home foreclosed as some kind of slacker that should manage money better and go get two jobs.”…..I just can’t say it better than that! De Burca- Love reading your responses that are filled with thoughts that I loose on the way to the computer.

However, Obama DID write two books about himself. I own one myself.

There is nothing wrong with that.

It’s a triology, I think his third book should be called, “Me, Myself and I” That’s certainly all he seems to care about now that he has snubbed over half the party with his Biden pick.
