Obama Pushing Aide For Senate Seat?

Barack Obama’s Illinois Senate Seat remains wide open - and everyone wants a piece of the political pie.
There are some familiar faces in the mix, like Reverend Jesse Jackson Jr, who told CNN that he’s "anxiously" awaiting Governor Rod Blagojevich’s phone call, while Illinois Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth, a former Army major who lost both her legs in Iraq, also made it clear she would be "honored" if she were to take Obama’s Senate spot.
While the decision’s ultimately up to Blagojevich, rumors are bubbling that President-elect Obama may be pushing for lawyer and business woman, Valerie Jarrett. Reports Chicago-based ABC journalist Ben Bradley: "Obama friend and confident Valerie Jarrett is the president-elect’s preference.
Whether that is merely Obama’s personal opinion, or if he intends to lobby on Jarrett’s behalf, remains to be seen. After all, Obama has to focus on a national agenda and may not want to be seen trying to influence the governor’s call." Meanwhile, an anonymous source "confirmed" the gossip to CNN.
None of the insiders involved are confirming the story, of course, but Jarrett would make a good fit for a number of reasons. First and foremost, she’s a legal and business whiz, which would no doubt come in handy in the Senate. Second, her family’s deeply ingrained in Chicago politics - her grandfather was the city’s first African-American Housing Authority leader and Jarrett worked in the mayor’s office for nearly a decade, including as Richard Daley’s chief-of-staff. It was during that time that Jarrett hired a young gun named Michelle Robinson. That would be our future first lady, Michelle Obama, a tie that gives Jarrett a close bond with President-elect Obama.
In fact, the 51-year old’s current serving on the Obama-Biden Transition Team, which will no doubt give her an inside look at Washington’s inner workings.
