Obama Shows Sentimental Side in Letter to Daughters

Barack Obama has written a tearjerker of a letter to his young daughters.

Asked by Parade magazine (hat tip, Huffington Post) what sort of personal message he would give children Sasha and Malia, the president-elect penned an open letter telling the girls he ran for president because of what he wants for them and every other child in America.

After growing up thinking almost wholly about himself, he writes, their births changed his worldview forever. And in the best way possible:

… Then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn’t seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn’t count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours.

Obama then declares that he wants all American kids to go to good schools and be inspired, have a chance to go to college even if their parents can’t afford it, and get well-paying jobs that allow them time to spend with their own children. Speaking of education, Obama also writes that the country as a whole should do what it can to overcome racial and other social divides.

Finally, adds Obama, he hopes that when they grow up, young Sasha and Malia will also do something to give back to a country that his given them so much. "It is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential," he writes.

He is such a sensitive guy, it shows when he is around his wife and daughters and he clearly adores them. I think he is a good balance for a President, loving and caring with his family and cool, calm and smart when it comes to running the country.

There is no doubt Obama LOVES his family. I see him sitting in the oval office talking to a world leader and having to excuse himself so he can check homework…He just seems like that kind of father, he would put anyone on hold for his family.

What is not to love about this man? He is saying what every caring parent can relate to completely, and he is projecting that out into the world in his own way.

I jusy hope he can maintain the balance for the next four, and hopefully eight more years… I’m sure that those two little girls will definitely keep him grounded. God bless the whole family… a breath of fresh air for our nation.

That little one, Sasha, has such a look of mischief in her eyes !! I think we will have fun watching her antics . And Malia, age 10 and already the size of a 13 year old, will,I predict, by the end of his first term, tower over both her mother and father. I understand he has plans to convert the little bitty single hoop basketball court in the side yard into a full court … won’t that be fun to watch !

What I love about the letter it’s the way I have felt towards my family but I don’t expresses myself the way he does. Obama does have a way with words. Sometimes I thing the man could move a mountain with his words.

That was a beautiful, obviously heartfelt letter. I truly believe you can sense someone’s character by the way he/she treats those closest to them. Obama, strikes me as the type of man that will lead with grace, and compassion, considerate to all, even those that oppose him.

Say what you will about his politics, but there is no denying Barack Obama is a wonderful man and father. Every little girl and boy should be so lucky to have a dad that loves them as much as he loves Sasha and Malia.
